Show me the elite free agents who have signed with the Wizards. Show me the all-stars we have had play for us that were not drafted by us. Show me the assets we currently have to trade for elite players.
For this team we are closer to bottoming out to land a generational prospect than we are to building a team dynasty and becoming a destination franchise for those elite free agents. We just had to pay a quarter billion dollars to one of our own free agents to convince him to stay with us.
I could easily turn that around and say show me when the Wizards have ever actually tanked their way to anything close to a championship. Lords knows they have had enough high lottery picks to successfully achieve it.
Regardless, the Wizards have had bad gms, coaching and ownership for at least 30 years prior to Tommy taking over. So, both our questions are kind of pointless.
Is Tommy the answer? I don’t know, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Wes jr (imho) is a horrible coach, so I do hold that against him. But in a few years, he has gotten the Wizards enough talent that I think the Wizards are solid at pg, sg, and c for 144 minutes a game with Monte, Delon, Beal, Goodwin, Gafford, and KP. Additionally, they are solid for 24 mpg at back up sf and pf with kispert, and KP now that Wes jr is finally willing to put Gafford and KP on the court at the same time. That leaves 72 mpg at starting sf and pf, where the wizards need to improve. They have Davis, Barton, gill, kispert, Deni, Rui, taj, and Kyle to fight for those minutes and as assets to maybe improve the production for those 72 minutes. It seems to me the Wizards aren’t that far from being good. They just have 2 main problems. Wes jr plays Kyle too much, and he may be hurting the production of will and the young players, as he did with the players who were here last year, that had down seasons before rebounding to career norms. Regarding that last comment, consequently, I don’t think we know who is an asset and who isn’t among the under achieving group mentioned above
