Exactly. This is not a championship level team, and the presence of Rivers cements that fact. As said earlier, unless Maxey is somehow moved for a Durant or SGA, the needle will not move for this team enough to make it a serious title contender.
It isn't going to happen because Morey is as culpable as Rivers, and even more so when you consider he could have made a coaching change after last season, but preparing for next season now would be the smartest play.
Fire Rivers and get whatever value possible for Harris, Thybulle, and Korkmaz right now - I would argue that any effect those moves would have on this season would likely be positive, but regardless, planning early to maximize the next couple of seasons is the smart play. And for that reason alone there's no shot of Sixers ever doing so.
