Of course it's a horrible deal. I'm not recommending it, unless ...

It's clearly based on my conjecture as to how the league/draft lottery may actually work (based on the Pelicans' history and our moving up in the 2021 draft), and this deal would be a way of proving it once and for all. Masai doesn't do it without Silver's assurance beforehand.

If we gift Pascal, Fred and Birch to the Lakers for Westbrook, P-Bev and the two unprotected picks, Silver will guarantee Masai gets the #1 pick this year. I believe that's the same deal they worked out with the league on the CP trade in 2011. Pels miraculously "won" the lottery in 2012, and selected AD (who they sent to the Lakers in 2019, after also miraculously winning the lottery that spring and drafting Zion).

I'm fine with it. Lebron deserves a last hurrah in the playoffs. Raps get Wemby and a S-ton of cap space this summer.

lets trade a top 15 player for two first round picks years from now and bad contracts.

this is literally worse than the vince carter trade.

So you also read into my original post that I believe that a Pascal/Fred for Russ + distant picks deal (ignoring the corrupt hypothetical side deal) would be good for the Raptors.

Interesting.

OG's undoubtedly a valuable piece, but if the perception of him around the league is indeed as high as reports suggest, I would be taking calls on him. I've never had much faith in him developing into a higher usage guy because of his lack of ability doing anything off the dribble. He can't shoot, he can't pass, he struggles to stay on balance resulting in a fair share of travels, fumbles, dribbles off his foot, or shots that are easy to block. He's a pretty fluid athlete getting up and down the court and moving side to side defensively, but once you put the ball in his hands, he becomes clunky and resembles a football player at your local gym who plays basketball twice a week.

The problem with OG is the lack of assets from the people who would be motivated. It's basically NY or ...Dallas has no assets.

The Cuban thing about "Send help" is funny if you haven't read it. He realizes he's on the clock.

2nd/third year players with upside. Trent was a value play at 21 deadline. Raps could look to find another.

100% this. OG has made little strides in any useful perimeter development and at this point he's a very solid glue guy (dpoy candidate) - not a good '3rd option' but very valuable if he sticks to 3&D on a contender. Plays a little more like a mobile big than a traditional wing.

Yes, he can be efficient when it comes to making open shots and cutting to the basket but has limited ability in creating opportunities for himself or teammates. The worse your team's offense is the worse he looks.

That being said he's on a good contract for the next 2.5 years so would definitely need a big trade package for him.

The Pelicans make a TON of sense actually.

The West is WIDE OPEN right now, Zion's health might be the most uncertain thing in the league, it's up & down right now & as he gets older, just naturally puts on more weight....good luck is all I'll say PLUS you have an aging CJ that is at his most valuable as a player NOW. If they REALLY want to give themselves a REAL chance to win a ring, it's NOW (as within 2-3 years tops imo). They can't wait on all these young guys to develop imo. I'm sorry to say it but I'll be truly SHOCKED if Zion makes through his next contract mainly healthy but I definitely don't see him making it through the next when the MAN body has kicked in, those knees aren't taking those anvils on the knees game in, game out. So point being, I think think they have a 2-3 year window, they're in the 1st year RIGHT NOW). You get Zion & BI their version of Marcus Smart, Jrue Holiday, Andrew Wiggins etc...you give your team a REAL shot to win right now at probably the greatest odds you're team will ever have. If they wait on their young guys, in a 2-3 years, Zion's knees are probably shot & CJ is just OLD lol. If I were them I'd honestly be open to a package involving Daniels with one of the LAL pick or Trey Murphy + their pick (and one other non LAL future with either package) as the headliner for OG.

I could see MEM & POR him loving him too but I don't think MEM has a package quite enticing enough & POR will want to keep one of their SGs (my guess is now Sharpe since his ceiling is higher) but Simons imo isn't the solution due to his crappy defence. He's a GREAT offensive weapon but not quite a SPECIAL one where it can outweigh the defensive woes. He's more Jordan Poole than prime James Harden so I'd pass on him. I'm one of the few that would just be fairly happy with getting Sharpe in some collection of other players because I think his potential level is something like Mitchell. But I know it's all just potential at the moment so Raps would likely (as they did) want to push for more picks. I'm not sure what POR can offer & I'm not sure now that they've seen Sharpe up close for an extended period of time & looking how far off POR seems to be from really contending that they'll even want to give up that potential when will they truly be contenders if post OG trade?! Not sure, I think they could make a WCF but I'd be surprised if they actually made the Finals. OG would put MEM over the top if they could still hold onto Ja, Bane & JJJ but I don't like what's left that much and of course their picks would be garbage.

Really though any team that has a talented SCORING duo would LOVE to have OG right across the league.

I'm not sure why they didn't just pay Brunson tbh.

Anyway, I think John Collins could be a good target for them. The issue with Dallas is they really don't have much value to offer.

Not at all. The absurd part is about Silver and the draft and our cap space. So why did we end up with the 4th pick after Tampa, instead of the 1st and the ability to choose without 3 other teams getting theirs ahead of us? And what good does cap space do if your asking FA's to sign on when there would be little surrounding Barnes and Wemby ( if your technicolour dreams happened to come true ). FA's would look at the team situation, and likely sign for 2 years in a better situation for them, knowing that in 2 years they could have a better idea of how Wemby does against grown men, and another shot as a FA.
