Not making any moves before the deadline seems like utter insanity to me. Now, I say that with one caveat; if the offers are bad for what the Pistons are offering, cool, i get it, but when I read that Weaver won't even move Bojan for an unprotected first alarm bells start going off. The bill of goods so far, has been horrendous to say the least, and now there's talk of being great?
Bojan/Burks combo may the the best assets the Pistons have had in a long time, especially if they are paired together. Both are shooting lights out, and Bojan is having a career season. This team, as currently constructed does not, under any circumstances, have the potential to be great. Maybe Weaver ready has designs on a free agent(or two) who will help the team out in a big damn way?
The draft will offer very little help, as they are a rookie. As a fan. I am concerned.
i feel like I'm beating a dead horse particularly in response to you zeeb but what exactly did you expect this season? What exactly do you expect for this trade deadline? It's quite likely that Pistons fans overvalue their own player assets as seems to always be the case. Weaver likely isn't getting any offers worth giving up Bogdanovic for. You want the team to win now yet want them to trade Bogey for subpar value. Burks has no value, guys like that get traded for late 2nds. Whoopy dee do. Bey sure but is there any urgency to trade him right now, at the deadline?
Personally, I'm not enamored with the idea of all The 3 B's ebing on the roster next season because they're redundant but I expect Weaver to make bigger moves at the draft when he makes most of his big moves usually.
As far as the team going forward is concerned, it seems to be on track to me with the one derailment being Cade's injury which is something nobody could have controlled. You say they're just adding a drafted player? No, they're adding Cade and there's a wealth of cap space to work with. I won't be concerned until I see what the team looks like in the offseason.
As far as this season is concerned, as I said to you in previous posts. it was designed to be a development season with Cade spearheading it. Once Cade got injured, it was a write off in terms of wins/losses so at this point it's about player development and I think there's some positive to point to with Duren, Ivey's improvements, some improvement with Hayes although a bit flat lately, Stewart expanding his game a bit more. That's what it's all about, those young guys right now and it all seems to be on track relative to expectations IMO. This will be a big offseason for Weaver to see if he can build an actual TEAM now, it's time to get this thing moving in the winning direction the moment this season ends.
I do know one thing, Weaver will make at least one move that we won't see coming and it can range anywhere from WTF? to oh yeah I like that.
