   That's a big no from me, Get rid of one headache just to bring another bearded one back. That's assuming KD is still even here in 6 months time.

Him and Luka will never work personality wise. They have no chance of serious contention in the West.
I'm honestly surprised they wanted to make this work even from a on-court perspective. Two ball dominant ISO players. They should have already seen how that worked out for us. They should be good, but are they going to be championship level now? I doubt it. We'll see though.

Might have missed replies to this, but I agree-- as a fan of Luka, I'm skeptical of this trade working out for DAL.

Like LeBron, a generationally-talented passer like Doncic should have length, cutters, shooters and defenders around him, not an undersized combo guard who dominates the ball and only checks one of those boxes.

Kyrie as a backup to Luka should be great for them, but that's only ~12mpg. The other ~25mpg KI plays alongside Doncic could be pretty awkward for DAL.

You could tell the trade was conjured up in a hurry, with the chief motivation on both sides being desperation.

DFS and Din fits better on the Mavs roster
Kyrie fits better on our roster

I'm surprised how anyone can hate this move.

First, we got rid of a malcontent diva who really has very low trade value due to his track record of undependability and being an expiring.

Second, we get back 2 serviceable "lengthy" players that fits our switching defensive schemes. DFS an excellent 3&D and a homecoming Spencer who really improved his game (particularly his 3) from the last time he's here.

Lastly, an unprotected 1st! Which allows us to explore more options to get a secondary scorer to KD.

If anything, it's Kyrie & the Mavs who are potential losers in this deal. With Irving, would likely only manage to extend for 2 years and the Mavs, apart from possibly imploding, can lose Kyrie for nothing if flat-earth dude elects to walk in FA and join the Lakers (assuming they don't extend Rui).

At this point, I'm just glad this is all over. I just want to regain some sanity and find positive reasons for me to continue to invest my time rooting for this team. I just hope that the remaining players that we have continue to compete each and every game. Talent or not, it's still fun watching your team play with heart.

P.S.
So does this mean Kyrie will be wearing a Mavs jersey as a starter in the ASG?

Probably the second best wing defender in the league behind Bridges in Phoenix. Perfect type of defender to put on Tatum, Brown.

I watched their last game as a Mav against the Warriors last night and he looks really, really good defensively.

Idk if it’s bitterness or what but some of the Mavs fans don’t think much of his defense

DFS has faced Kawhi in two playoff series and has made Andrew Wiggins revive his career last year. He didnt make a dent.

So if it was a choice between Kyrie and DFS locking someone up, I'd take the All NBA talent 10 times out of 10.

He’s not a DPOY candidate unlike Claxton but he’s joining one of the best shot blocking and three point defensive teams in the league. He’s going to fit in extremely well. No way around it.

Did he ever play in Dallas with Ben who is elite on PnR D, Royce O’Neale a top tier defender, Joe (who is quietly a top ISO defender) or Nic who is the best shot blocker in the league? Nope.

yea he might not be a lockdown defender but he can be at least as good as O'neale. And we switch everything in this system so it shouldn't be any liabilities. I'm more concerned with his 3 pt shooting.

My ideal scenario next:
Trade Simmons for Siakim + GTJr. Spurs get Simmons in a 3 team deal + 1 FRP. Raptors get Poeltl + Joe Harris + Seth + 1 FRP + 2nds
Trade Sharpe + 2nd for Naz Reid

Nets new roster:
Starters: Dinwiddie | Finney Smith | Durant | Siakim | Claxton
Bench: Cam, GT Jr, Royce, Warren, Watanabe, Reid

This needs to happen. That's a super deep and flexible team, that can really defend. Probably a pipe dream though

He shot 39% from 3 last season and 35% this year.

Yes, Kevin O'Connor from the ringer had this in his Kyrie trade article.

He also thinks the Mavs offer was better and I agree.

Pretty clear then that we are trying to win now, cuz the Clippers offer from a pure asset standpoint is obviously better.

Yes, the trade is the best offer to stay competitive while still getting assets.

Also Dallas 2029 pick is really juicy because its after Luka's extension runs out, so if he leaves in FA or gets hurt(hopefully not), it could be a reallyy good pick. The Clippers first less so because they'll prob be decent for awhile, given they're in LA and has a super aggressive and rich owener.

I wanted CP3 myself soon as the trade destinations were reported but he’s not going to help us contend due to age and money owed. It wouldn’t be a good fit for Ben either.

Paul / Simmons / KD wouldn’t ever mesh. Paul refuses to score enough which is why Phoenix is struggling without Booker.

I'm on the fence, I think I would have done the Suns deal too but CP3 basically alternates between being washed and not washed every other game...

I've says felt like Tsai has a finite limit on what he wants to spend as well, he's been looking to trim the luxury tax bill for a while IMO.
