The issue is that you have the same team next year minus Gary but you have a couple of second rounders. You cant use Gary’s cap space, as we are above the cap. So to management its either get worse next year and be capped and lose gary and add no one, or replace Gary with Jakob.

Basically means Masai will absolutely not tank. MLSE doesn’t want to have a capped out team that is trash, and they want to get revenue from at least one round of playoffs next year if we will be operating above the cap.

Its either that or you tear it all down for picks, and I dont see Masai ever doing it no matter how much some would want that.

You can play with your salary by taking on a team's bad 2 year contract. The Nets will gladly give you Joe Harris with some compensation thrown in.

You don't delude yourself into thinking Poetl is worth your draft assets the way FO seems to think.

If we trade Trent for Harris and a pick in 2028/2029 from BKN you mean? But that means you have Harris on your payroll, probably a worse year next year. maybe you use that 2028 BkN pick in a package for a star in the future but that means your tanking for the next few years.

Sure lets give Barnes a couple of losing years, by the time 2028 rolls around and we still have that pick maybe we draft a player that will be good in 2 to 3 years from then which would take you to 2031. Barnes first RFA is in 2025, the end of that contract takes you to 2029/2030.

So how is this draft pick helping you retain Barnes. Maybe all that losing turns Barnes into another VC/Bosh and he leaves. Then your treadmill continues

I would rather keep competing and wait to pounce on a trade for a star when it becomes available

The Lakers just turned a useless expiring contract and draft capital into three rotation players.

The FO can do the exact same thing in the offseason or next deadline if they want with whatever analog to the Harris (or any other contract)/picks package they acquired.

In the meantime, that useless contract can help the team tank the last bit of the season the same way we got Barnes.

There is no scenario where the FO is somehow handcuffed into making this Poetl mistake. There are multiple paths to the same outcomes without surrendering a first round pick for a UFA.

We continue to hear that Masai's asking price is too steep, I'm not expecting one of og/fvv/ siakam to be traded. Hopefully I'm wrong. Goodnight

If we give up a first for Jakob...I'm done with this team. How can Masai/Bobby see the product on the floor and see it as a winner?

And why would you want to make BKN better and have KD stay in BKN so you have more competition.

Masai says FK that. Masai would rather trade Trent out west than take on Harris and make Nets better.

Or Masai just wants to trade for a star but nothing is becoming available. He doesnt want the DAngelo Russels of the league, and he doesnt want to stockpile 50 picks like OKC and Utah. To each his own i guess, all i can say is Ainge won his chips by trading picks for Garnett and Allen, he didnt win them by drafting all his players.

Masai is go big or go home, this the guy that traded for Kawhi Leonard. In all probability he's waiting for KD and will offer the Nets everyone short of Scottie Barnes, he's not gonna settle for insignificant small transactions that are not needle movers. If he doesn't get a Superstar he will wait in the offseason to get one.

This may in fact be the case. But bear in mind that we're the ones up against the clock, not the Nets. KD hasn't requested a trade and we need to offload our guys more than the Nets need to offload KD.

So there is a reality where you could find yourself sitting around waiting for KD, it doesn't happen and then FVV and Trent walk for nothing in the offseason.

Not to mention - will we even have enough post-Durant trade to have made the deal worth it?

Masai and bobby deserve to be criticized if they give up this year’s FRP for Jakob when they are the 7th worst team in the league. Are they doubling down on Fred and pascal?
This makes no sense at all.

Organizing a RGM retirement party for us :)

I mean who knows..this roster sucks but it’s getting us a lottery pick. Maybe in a few years we look back and think, thank god this team sucked.

Then again , we are picking up these meaningless wins now

Just on optics alone, you can't have Thad in that deal. It's like we have a double agent in the FO there to exclusively help rebuild the Spurs.

If Trent isn't going to San Antonio...it's possible he goes to a win-now team willing to give up a first round pick that gets rerouted to San Antonio along with Thad Young to get Poeltl. I'm sure San Antonio wants Dalano...they can have Malachi Flynn instead.

How do you know we are the ones up against the clock?
What if Durant has told the Nets he wants out. Maybe they are the ones up against the clock before news leaks.

Also if KD deal doesn't happen by 2:30 tomorrow, Masai has already lined up other deals for moving on from Trent or Fred or both which he would pull the trigger on.

Yeah you can say its taking a risk those deals may fall through but its a risk Masai thinks is worth taking. He waited out Kawhi as well. Everyone and entire media thought Clips or Lakers would get Kawhi.

So for Masai waiting for potentially getting a top 5 player is worth the risk of losing out on the D’angelo Russell’s, Vabderbilt’s and Josh Hart’s and Cam Reddish’s of this league.

I support his stance

Agreed, but I doubt it would be this years, unless it's HEEEAVILY protected. Guess we'll know soon

I don’t buy it. If we do trade for Poeltl, Banton and Birch will be the pieces to match the salary.

The optics would be too horrible if thad is in it.

Sure , that is how Masai works lol.

If you have lost faith in Masai, you should cheer for another team because he is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

For me “ I believe in Masai, i believe he can fly”
