I agree Hart is a nice player, but let's not pretend Leon didn't send out 2 FRPs to get him, not to mention likely benching his last two FRPs (Grimes/Deuce) to play him, not to mention an expensive role-playing (French) free-agent SG collecting dust on the bench.
The MSG role player show rolls on.
Grimes will play, Deuce is a 2nd rounder. Try again.
Nitpicky m'fer, love you.
I don't recall the exact trade history of how we ended up with Grimes and Deuce, but I do recall typical MSG shenanigans afoot where I thought maybe they traded down and out of the first round, so let me clarify---
Everything I said is true -- Deuce will be out and Grimes (Leon's last 2 draft picks) will likely go to the bench and see his opportunities reduced. You got me on the trutherism that Deuce was a 2RP. Bravo!
You don't agree with me, and that's okay but Josh Hart to me and apparently others is reminiscent of many other generic veteran role-playing SGs of recent Knicks past.
Incoming Thibs 8.5-man rotation w/minimal threes and maximum rim protection:
Mitch | Hartenstein
Randle | Obi
RJ
Hart |Grimes
Brunson | IQ
It sucks that Deuce will get his minutes cut. I don't think Grimes gets his minutes cut that much, plus I think playing 28 instead of 31 minutes a game might be good for his jumper.
RJ could play 5 less minutes too.
I don't think it's fair to judge it exactly as Knick moves in the past. They'd play vets over higher picks and give them all the minutes while not developing any youth; this FO/coach, while nothing great, mostly gets extra picks, mostly drafts guys - yes, they've traded out of a draft/traded picks, yet they continue to play & start RJ/Mitch (previous regime) and give large roles to IQ/Grimes (their picks), Obi has a role (not enough but still) and Sims and McBride get minutes, Sims somewhat significant, McBride minutes lately.
That's just not like other regimes. It's almost a normal club.
