what stopped them was they thought they though they had more leverage than they did and utah would eventually acquiesce. they were wrong about that.

But if Leon just wanted to "save his job" and get the immediate win, wouldn't that supersede negotiating tactics?

no matter how much you want something, if you're pretty sure you can get it for a discount then you're going to try to get the discount.

maybe they had a set price they were willing to pay and they never would have gone higher than that, we'll never know because cleveland swooped in and got him while we were still negotiating.

I guess he doesn’t think his job is in jeopardy

(not aimed at u Sham, I just like good quotes :D ) Still, not sure always trust "reports" as knowing the full story.

they can get stuff wrong but when the majority of them all have the same story, it's probably true

Mitchell is not the right fit here unless you go all in for a super team

Embiid
Randle
Hart
Mitchell
Brunson

And the bench would get filled instantly off the waivers and ring chasers!

But the Knicks could have had Mitchell without giving up neither of RJ nor Grimes if they were OK to trade 5 or 4 picks but with much lesser protections! One option it was Toppin, Reddish, one of Fournier or Rose (or both if Bojan was to be included), McBride and those 4-5 picks almost all unprotected

Over the years, we've known that not to be true when it comes to Knick executives.

And your second paragraph is my point. The Knicks were also not negotiating anymore after they extended Barrett. They had a set price for a player that no one would have blamed him for overpaying. Think that's important when evaluating Rose.

So wouldn't the Mitchell trade have been an easy trade to make? Easy superstar acquisition.

i actually think you can trust sports reporting more than regular reporting nowadays. in the current times, sports reporters care more about their reputation and will triple check info they get and usually report without bias. it's why you actually don't have a ton of nba rumors like you used to in the press. the hacks have been weeded out of the business. the old guard of guys who spread rumors and go negative like berman/isola have been replaced by the fred katz/ian begley types who don't engage in that kind of behavior. now the rumors mostly come from guys without blue checks on twitter.

Wtf is going on? Knicks for real?

Anyone know what happened on December 3rd? Interesting cutoff date. I just wonder...

Grimes Deuce Sims enter the lineup on the 4th? We got beat down by Dallas 12/3. We were 10-13.

if Leon thought his job was in jeopardy I think it would have been an easy trade to make, that’s why I say he must be very secure knowing he’s not getting fired. And I guess it’s even more secure after this season.

i would guess it has to do with analytics becoming very prevalent across sports. sports reporters used to be these crusty miserable old guys who smoked cigars and had bad diets and now they're all young nerdy types who attended good colleges and have a bachelors of science in statistics.

whether its getting lucky or being good Leon has had a lot of things fall his way this year.

Brunson signing
The Donovan Mitchell deal not being completed
The trade for Reddish that didn't work out but then led to the acquisition of Hart

We are legit good now and with how good Brunson is playing and the depth of our team...you can legit say we are probably 1 piece away from being a contender.

I hate that we keep talking about this but the Knicks extended RJ prior to Utah making the deal with Clev. Negotiations had to start over, or end as they did. A lot of people killed the Knicks for that, but they had a price and deadline and walked away from the deal that was being negotiated.
