So the real problem here is that Embid should have won two years ago when someone other than Giannis had to win and Embid lead Philly to the #1 seed. Jokic should be winning his second and he clearly deserves it this year.

2 years ago when Embiid played only 51 games. Tell me how he “deserved it” over jokic? Jokic played 20 more games than Embiid. Had comparative stats.

28.5 pts 10.6 rebs 2.8 asts

26.4 pts 10.8 rebs 8.3 asts

49 wins vs 47 wins while embiid missed more than 20 more games than Jokic. Tell me how Embiid deserved it over jokic? I like how there is some revisionist history going on to discredit Jokic’s mvps. This crap should stop.

Reread what you highlighted. I’m saying Giannis deserved it, but the voters seem to always find a way to deny players a third MVP andthey have always done that by giving it to the best player on a #1 seed.
The only player in the last 40 years to win MVP with a lower win % than Jokic is Westbrook and if h wins this year he will at his current win % he will have won with the 2nd 3rd and 9th worst win% in the last 40years

just FYI, had Giannis or Joel won last year only Russ and jordon would have won with a lower win %.
Is it really such a different message?

That’s the point though there are times when players have undeniably great seasons and are given the award, but not twice
Westbrook had 3 more seasons averaging a triple Double and never received a single first place MVP vote again. Jordan didn’t win again until his team had the best record.

not all engagement is good.

Yes he promotes clickbait & hot takes, but Kendrick Perkins is now notorious for god awful takes, Lebron fanatic, and overall making ESPN a joke for hoops talk.

The NBA is in a serious bind because they're on the cusp of giving 3 consecutive MVPs to someone who should have never won 3 straight. Only Wilt, Russell, and Bird have ever won 3 consecutive MVPs. Not Kareem, not Jordan, not LeBron, not anyone else. Jokic ain't them. Not even close.

The sole reason why Giannis didn't win in 2021 was that he'd done nothing in the playoffs, and people were not about to give him 3 straight MVPs. So, Jokic won an MVP by default in 2021.

Jokic shouldn't have won it last year either. Besides Westbrook, every MVP winner for like 40 years had a top 3 seed the overwhelming majority of the time, and IIRC, they always had a top 4 seed. I don't care how bad Jokic's team was last year his team was the 6th seed and he shouldn't have won it. If Kobe could average 35 ppg and drag those sorry 2006 Lakers not only to the playoffs but 8th in Ortg in the entire league and not win, then Jokic had no business winning MVP last year. Embiid should've won it.

However, now when Jokic really deserves, i.e., he has the on-court production + the 1st seed, instead of this being his 1st, it'll be his third...in a row.

Jokic is one of the luckiest players in NBA history because he's about to have 2 more MVPs than he rightfully deserves. And if he doesn't win a championship this year the voters are gonna look stupid.

Whether or not Jokic wins the “chip”, you’re going to look stupid. So you have that going for you, at least. Consistency. Consistently stupid, but consistency nevertheless.

The NBA should have an option to go back in time and take aways his 2021 MVP because it does not fit the narrative any more

Jokic isn't the first player to win MVPs he didn't deserve, and he won't be the last. Dave Cowens stole an MVP from Kareem, Rose stole one from LeBron, etc.

It's a regular season award and a majority of the star players believe the regular season doesn't matter. What's the problem?

They should be able to redo those too, just redo the voting every 10 years :)

it's a voting award so its not like championships where you have to actually score more points than the other team

but they should redo those too, just add the 3 point shot to all the games for long distance shots and recalculate the game results

p.s.
I can't really agree Jokic did not deserve his MVPs but you are free to have your own list of true MVPs :)
Personally, I could see a case for someone else in 2021, but 2022 and 2023... probably not.

What a stupid take.

Lucky because he had the best stats, despite many injured teammates?

Who should've been the MVP those years?

Note to stillgotgame and everyone: Calling someone's take stupid is not technically a personal attack per RGM guidelines (the post was insulted, not the poster), but we'd love it if you'd dial back the hostility. Thx. -b

Giannis is doing stuff like that for years but he's not "euro" player according to ex egg ball bozo from ESPN so no need to attack him. By the way Jokic never pulled crap like that in his NBA career.

Re: Kendrick Perkins controversial comments on Jokic.

Duncan, Magic, and Russell all won MVP awards without scoring a lot of points.

Also, Perkins comments are kind of silly. Is he saying Dirk shouldn’t have won MVP in 2007 because he was tied for 10th at 24.6 ppg but Duncan winning in 2003 when he was 7th in ppg at 23.3 ppg?

In 1990 Magic won MVP and was 18th in ppg. In 1989 Magic won MVP and was 15th in ppg. You can win an MVP award while being the best passer in the game and not top 10 in scoring, as Magic, Nash, and Jokic have done.

You could certainly make a case for Jordan over Magic in 89 and 90, Shaq over Nash in 05, Kobe over Nash and Dirk, and Wilt over Russell the years Russell won MVP, but I’m not buying the racism argument.

If anyone was affected by racist voting it would probably be Kareem, but even then it’s hard to tell if it’s racism or reporters didn’t like him because he was surly.
