Giannis took 12 shots and had 13 assists. Beal took 32 shots, probably about 10 or so were awful shots, and had 2 total assists.
Wright/Kispert/Avdija all play winning basketball and make the right play and should’ve been more involved.
Beal plays for his ego, takes selfish shots, deflates the ball, gives zero focus or effort on defense. He thinks he’s a Devin Booker/Donovan Mitchell, but he’s really more of a CJ Mccollum. Ultimately doesn’t help you that much when he gives it all back on defense and doesn’t make anyone better on offense.
Last couple games we’ve seen Beal with probably the worst tunnel vision of the season
And some folks were pining for high-volume Beal, not me. Our "Big Three" think the only way they can be impactful is jacking up a ton of shots. Maybe some of those low usage guys, especially the young ones, would be a bit more comfortable with a bit higher volume if you gave them confidence that they didn't have to given you token passes when you are in terrible scoring positions.
Beal pushes closer to a top 30ish/all star level guy whenever he is more of a low usage off ball player that shoots catch and shoot 3s and locks in on defense. He can be slightly above average on that end and guard 1s, 2s, and some 3s.
I think everyone knows this except for Beal. He still thinks he’s prime D Wade or something. Kuzma thinks he’s Kevin Durant. He probably falls into the “sometimes useful rotation piece” but not even a quality backup.
This team has gone on a decent run before the ASB primarily because of Wright and Porzingis. Morris/Gafford/Beal are just solid starters.
I’m team let Kuzma walk and trade Beal in the off-season and reset the culture. I think the one thing that Unseld can get right as a coach, is building a culture of accountability, but it’s hard to do that when guys like Beal and Wall had been here for years.
I think if you have Wes a bunch of young promising players, he would be more likely to mold them into being hardworking winning players, as opposed to the entitled/ego/non winning type.
