Well looks like this is the end of the road for Andre Iguodala

Extremely unique player, as great an example of "positionless basketball" as anybody. I was thrilled when we stole him from Denver in 2014 (although I wanted to get Dwight Howard too, thank God that didn't happen). Graciously took the 6th man spot when Kerr came on, underrated move that set the tone for the dynasty that would follow. With Draymond, formed arguably the highest IQ defensive pairing in league history. And who can forget the completely non-controversial Finals MVP in 2015  Regardless of who you think should have won it that year, his reprising his starting role after a whole year coming off the bench for the first time in his career was huge in winning the ring that started it all. Even this year, he lead the team in +/- I believe, when all the athleticism and scoring ability left his body, he still had one of the best basketball brains on the planet. And hands, of course. I've never seen somebody better at swiping the ball out of somebody's hands without fouling, and I'd be very surprised if I ever do.

When the story of the greatest basketball team of all time is told, his name will feature prominently.

I just read about his injury. That sucks. If he hangs it up for good, he's had an excellent career.

+1 on the hands. I want to say it was 2012 that I went to see a scrimmage between the US team and some other Western Hemisphere squad, and Iggy, Tyson Chandler, and a bunch of megastars were playing. Iggy was easily the best defender even with DPOY Chandler on the floor. He just kept creeping baseline and stripping the ball away from everybody, or else completely shutting down the passing lanes so the ball never got inside to begin with. Great player.

The Warriors might not make the play-ins with how bad they are on the road.

It's honestly puzzling seeing their road woes.

You can book the Celtics winning the Finals this year and the Timberwolves finishing 11th.

Is this the most bizarre season ever by a defending champ?

7-28 on the road about as bad as any team. Basically dead even record more or less with Spurs, Rockets, Pistons
14-12 record WITHOUT Steph
22-23 record WITH Steph

has to be..........nothing makes logical sense about how theyve played as a team this season

I thought the MVP was done and dusted but after the Nuggets' recent struggles and Joel making a late surge I think it's going to go down the wire. Sixers have won 7 straight and he has 37-9-5 with 3 bpg on 72.5% TS during that stretch.

At this point I'd be ok with either of them winning it, there really isn't a wrong choice between them.

I certainly think there is a wrong choice between them, but not like I care too much with Jokic winning a softball MVP in 2021.

God bless him, but Rudy Gobert being the other contender tells you everything you need to know about the softballness of that MVP.

Unfortunate how much recency bias there seems to be in MVP talks. I think it was Ben Taylor who talked about how different the MVP race would have felt last year if the season was flipped.

Jokic has slowed some in recent weeks, but I’ve still got him a ways ahead of my next trio of Embiid/Giannis/Tatum. Luka probably 5th for now, but a couple others not so far off.

He wasnt actually a contender to win Mvp in 21 lol.....at least not in the real world. It was b/w Jokic, Embiid and Steph

Great vid by Elgee showing how teams can protect weak defenders like Steph and Jokic when theyre hunted. Playoffs are gonna be VERY interesting with how offenses have looked this season........

I am often in awe of just how smart some of our posters are. I've watched basketball for years and coached a few times and while I see everything when he points it out, watching it without sound, I'd have missed half of it.

And maybe it can help weak defenders but they have to be really smart and good at recognizing the angles. The team has to be full of smart guys who communicate really really well. Impressive.

Even at 32 post-two ACL tears that have zapped his athleticism and while he shoots 36% from the field and 28% from 3, Rubio’s on-court net rating is +8.2 and the team is 2.7 points per 100 better with him on.

Just a wonderful and highly intelligent player.

Upper middle-class man's Jason Kidd. Great passing, defense, rebounding, and a sky-high IQ go a long way at the highest level.

Feels like MVPiid is incoming. 8 straight wins now, while the Nuggets have lost 5 of 6 with the narrative being that Jokic's defense has cost them. It may be recency bias, but this resonates with voters.
