Now the Hornets are out of the Webanyama sweepstakes LMAO
No we have not hurt our probabilities for Wembanyama. We're locked in the 4 spot. We were never catching the bottom 3. And the Orlando Magic have like 8 fewer losses in the 5 slot. Wins at this point don't harm us in any material way. They build chemistry.
Our best player missed half the year. Our next best player who averaged 20 missed the whole year.
We have LaMelo - Miles - PJ - Mark Williams as our young building blocks. Plus our lottery pick. That could be our starting lineup, with all players on rookie deals except Miles and PJ. They'd be coming off rookie deals as restricted free agents.
Whatever we get from our deep bench pieces (Thor, McGowens, Kai Jones, Bouknight) down the stretch is a bonus.
Gordon Hayward's on an expiring contract. He can obviously still play. We need him to steady the young roster. And Dennis Smith Jr. has heart. I like those two as vet leaders. I could care less about Rozier and Oubre at this point. We play better as a team without them killing shotclock then chucking. Both are awful game managers.
I'm surprised Mavs didn't fight harder to keep Jalen Brunson. He fit in Dallas. All the toughness is gone between him leaving and the Kyrie trade.
