After months upon months of Morris and Ty bashing, God forbid we say anything about the board's sacred cows.
Both got going after I pointed out they hadn't done much. You're welcome.
Mann and Batum can play some defense on their worst nights, while Morris needed to share his minutes with Kawhi/PG/Zu to hide him on that end. He also wasn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard either, which is why he's now out of the rotation, after the FO most likely had a talk with Ty about it. So maybe the constant bashing wasn't completely unwarranted.
But we already knew all this. Am I to understand you want Morris to play instead of Mann or Batum? We don't have many options to fill their roles, but we did for Morris. RoCo right now is a better player, despite his own flaws and being in Ty's doghouse.
So what exactly was the point for all these little quips regarding Mann/Batum, other than to stir the pot, like you seem to enjoy doing? And wasn't Zu a "sacred cow" too not that long ago?
Not at all. I'm illustrating that there is no magic wand. Batum struggles with heavy minutes and RoCo has been no great shakes either. Now everybody can see--or SHOULD be able to--that there was a reason Ty was trying to wring whatever minutes he could out of our 16 million dollar man.
It was never a defense of Marcus, but of Ty. I think he's done the impossible just getting us this far.
As for Zu, he is perfect at 20-24 minutes but also struggles with more of a workload. Plumlee has been a little less than adequate but better than Diabate, Moses or small-ball 5. And Plumlee helped save our bacon today.
As for Mann, he has been a sacred cow. "Terance Mann is the future" was risable on its face. 4 points, 2 rebs and 1 assist in 20 minutes today. Please. He's a nice little piece, but a piece and not a big one.
[Bones has already passed him on the org totem pole, IMO. He's a real point guard and is only 22. Mann will be 27 in the fall.]
As for Marcus himself, he helped get us over the hump of incorporating Westbrook. Ty's only thinking was that at least we'd have some continuity with the 4 existing starters while the rest of the roster was working in 3 new rotation players [4 if you count Hyland]. And it worked.
Am I to understand you want Morris to play instead of Mann or Batum?
That was NEVER the question. Batum is to play as many minutes as he can at age 34. Mann plays as many as he is effective but he does not produce numbers, is NOT a PF, and it's clear KL and PG did NOT want him in the starting lineup. They prefer to play at the 2-3 and he can't play the 1 or 4.
