After months upon months of Morris and Ty bashing, God forbid we say anything about the board's sacred cows. ;-)

Both got going after I pointed out they hadn't done much. You're welcome.

Mann and Batum can play some defense on their worst nights, while Morris needed to share his minutes with Kawhi/PG/Zu to hide him on that end. He also wasn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard either, which is why he's now out of the rotation, after the FO most likely had a talk with Ty about it. So maybe the constant bashing wasn't completely unwarranted.

But we already knew all this. Am I to understand you want Morris to play instead of Mann or Batum? We don't have many options to fill their roles, but we did for Morris. RoCo right now is a better player, despite his own flaws and being in Ty's doghouse.

So what exactly was the point for all these little quips regarding Mann/Batum, other than to stir the pot, like you seem to enjoy doing? And wasn't Zu a "sacred cow" too not that long ago?

Not at all. I'm illustrating that there is no magic wand. Batum struggles with heavy minutes and RoCo has been no great shakes either. Now everybody can see--or SHOULD be able to--that there was a reason Ty was trying to wring whatever minutes he could out of our 16 million dollar man.

It was never a defense of Marcus, but of Ty. I think he's done the impossible just getting us this far.

As for Zu, he is perfect at 20-24 minutes but also struggles with more of a workload. Plumlee has been a little less than adequate but better than Diabate, Moses or small-ball 5. And Plumlee helped save our bacon today.

As for Mann, he has been a sacred cow. "Terance Mann is the future" was risable on its face. 4 points, 2 rebs and 1 assist in 20 minutes today. Please. He's a nice little piece, but a piece and not a big one.

[Bones has already passed him on the org totem pole, IMO. He's a real point guard and is only 22. Mann will be 27 in the fall.]

As for Marcus himself, he helped get us over the hump of incorporating Westbrook. Ty's only thinking was that at least we'd have some continuity with the 4 existing starters while the rest of the roster was working in 3 new rotation players [4 if you count Hyland]. And it worked.

That was NEVER the question. Batum is to play as many minutes as he can at age 34. Mann plays as many as he is effective but he does not produce numbers, is NOT a PF, and it's clear KL and PG did NOT want him in the starting lineup. They prefer to play at the 2-3 and he can't play the 1 or 4.

From the highlights and the box scores, looks like Kawhi is back offensively.

But has he shown all-defense form this season or mostly saved it for his offense?

Is he going to defend Booker or KD full time or they're going to try to save him for big possessions down the stretch?

Do I want Morris back in the starting lineup? Not really. Westbrook has made the transition into the starting 5 and Marcus got increasingly lousy week after week. In fact at one point I suggested the Clippers buy him out just to shake them out of their doldrums. The only reason I would even play him is to reduce Batum's workload, but Nico seems to be holding up--there are no b2b's and much less travel in the playoffs.

Some combination of Hyland and Mann and Powell along with Plumlee and/or Leonard and/or Batum seems to be working as a second unit. They pretty much won the game for us today. I don't think Morris OR Covington needs to take those minutes.

In fact, hats off to Westbrook--25/7/8 with a steal and only 2 TOs and the only starter in the black at plus+8!

The announcers said something about Plumlee mad about a blown defensive assignment?

Plumlee scored six of his nine points during the fourth quarter following the dust-up—including one on an assist from Hyland—as Los Angeles erased a four-point deficit, so it appears as if the pair was able to set their differences aside to finish the regular season on a high note.

Whatever it is, let's have more of it. :D

Always a disadvantage for us vs. young legs and an IDGAF attitude.

We certainly don't have young legs, but with PG out we can still take a IDGAF attitude into the series...

ADD: Hyland/Plumlee

Somehow, the altercation worked out for the Clippers and they figured out a way to take the lead and win the game during the fourth quarter. Clippers head coach Ty Lue was asked about the fight after the game, and he gave a somewhat surprising answer.

“If you ain’t getting it right, fight then," Lue said. "After that, we took off and played better. Maybe we should do it more often. They worked it out, everything is good.”

Andrew Greif of the LA Times also spoke to Mason Plumlee after the game, where it was revealed Plumlee was frustrated because the Clippers didn't match up properly on a couple of possessions to end the third quarter. Plumlee then revealed that both he and Bones have moved on, and appreciated that he was able to have a heated conversation with his teammate.

Some would say we've taken a IDGAF attitude all season, from the coach on down.

Possibly a nightmare ending to their season if they can’t make the playoffs, especially after that trade.

This team needs more anger. they are too quiet and meek. They are terrible to start games and let teams get hot. they have a terrible defensive formula and Ty is not really engaged with this team. I think he bows out after this season.

They need to shuffle the deck with all the players. I dont think Kawhi/PG can be a championship combo. Both are hurt too much.

A win is a win. Period!

A fully loaded Suns team barely got by the G League Nuggets who sat all their best players on Thursday night. Then they sat everyone for the remaining two games of the season. They don't even look like like they have any type of chemistry between them at all with all the games KD has missed. Todays game was understandable. It wasn't just a back to back, it was a back to back then fly to Phoenix and be ready for a 12:30pm game. We all wanted a blowout but we got the win which was the goal. Now we got six days off to get locked and loaded for the real show

Yah, I think Ty is tired of the situation. He sounds weary. 30 different starting lineups. No credit.

Andrew Greif
@AndrewGreif

The Clippers started this season with pictures of the Larry O'Brien Trophy in their practice facility. They weren't out of the play-in until the final minutes of the final game. Asked Ty Lue what that ride has been like and he called it a "hard road."

Image

He'll give it hell for the playoffs but they could be over for us right quick. If they are, scotch-taping this roster together every night is just no fun and there's no reason it won't be as bad or worse next year. If Kawhi and PG can't manage a decent playoff run after 4 years together, what's the use of running it back?

[Migod, has it been FOUR years? Where did the time go?]

If so, with KL and PG able to opt out after 2023-24, next year is shaping up to be a lame-duck season and who wants to be a lame-duck coach? I'd rather start fresh somewhere else, and Ty won't want for offers.

What a ridiculous take. Why exactly are so many people worried about the Suns? Durant? Give me a break. He is just more offense.

They got rid of their most important all-around player (Bridges) in the Durant deal. The moment we start attacking Chris Paul, their entire defensive system will fall apart.

Zu is going to expose Ayton's weaknesses on both ends of the floor. Chris Paul and Devin Booker are going to succumb to the pressure like they always do. By Game 3, Chris Paul's hammy will be in post-season form.

Clips come out and play with intensity and we sweep the Suns.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
