It's a legitimate concern and probably why he is dropping in mocks.
I think he will be more efficient with NBA space and coaching, probably not the peak of efficiency, but a good offensive option. He did have a 53.4% TS in conference and a 52.4% TS overall, both of which are about average for the NCAA. He was really good at getting to the line with a higher free-throw rate than:
- Scoot Henderson
- Brandon Miller
- Amen Thompson
- Ausar Thompson
- Jarace Walker
- Cam Whitmore
- Grady Dick
- Taylor Hendricks
- Brice Sensabaugh
- Nick Smith Jr.
Who are all mocked ahead of him on tankathon. I think that indicates an ability to get into the paint, and that with the paint less packed than in college his conversion rate should be better. He is also a good freethrow shooter (not amazing, 79%) and has a nice form, so I think his three point shooting will also be a bit better. That's my case for why I think he'll be more efficient at the NBA level, I like what I see a lot, but I understand misgivings based on the lack of efficiency. Note, too, that the most inefficient college players mocked in the first 20 picks of the first round (Smith, George, Jackson) are also the youngest (and in general, add Scoot to this list).
