Well he was dealing with an ownership change while shopping Jae for a extra rotation player, but then it shifted to the big trade and ADDING Jae to that. Then to duck the tax we dumped ANOTHER rotation player in Saric.
So we went from two starters, Saric, and getting something from Crowder, to KD, TJ and Bazley. So instead of having 4 rotation players, we have 1. Now of course most view it as worth it, and I get it, but we knew we had depth problems, or most did. We knew that when Jae wouldn't play and we still had Bridges, Cam and Saric.
Im still mad that we couldnt trade Crowder at all (and Brooklyn managed to get thousand 2nd for him)
and then paid THE SAME package for KD they were asking in July.
Yep, thats about asset management. I've been beating that drum since the (first) TJ trade, when most were enamored with JJ about "getting his guy". I've always said that if we lose on the margins pretty much every trade it's gonna come back and bite us in the áss later on. And here we are.
As for Monty - I've said it for a couple of seasons: he is our Jackson, time to find our Kerr.
These two are not competent enough to win a chip. They are not Blanks and Watson bad, but nothing better than mediocre.
Basically the whole team is based on a lucky find in Booker in a draft, who became great despite the organizational failures around him. That (and a more than couple of tanking seasons of draft picks) got us CP wanting to play here. We overpaid in that trade as well. That got us an aging floor coach (for 2ish good years on a bad contract stucture and lenght) to hide Montys deficits. That got us KD wanting to play here - but we overpaid in that trade as well - and guess what? Contract is too long for his age. Familiar?
Now we are sitting here, capped out, two old and oft injured stars (is CP still a star? I don't think so), and no draft picks and no assets. If we don't get extreemly lucky this will be a bumpy ride in the next 2-3 years with Book / KD wanting out sooner or a bit later.
But again: this is nothing that I haven't seen or predicted after watching NBA for 30+ years now. Yawn. Also the reason why i post less and less... i follow Suns games, general box scores, some articles and podcasts once in a while if they sound intresting, come here pretty much daily, but not really post
