As much as the defense has been problematic, if we can't score we can't set up our defense as well, we play differently trying to catch up, and basically we can't win. There's been lots of discussion over the year about this player and that player's numbers aren't as impressive because scoring is up in the NBA and without getting into a player discussion, it's true that scoring is up. We can't just acknowledge it for putting down a player you don't care for or think is overrated and then ignore increased scoring when it applies to the entire team. 103 in 2023 is not going to cut it. Again, the defense is a problem, but we should be able to outscore 115, which is the number the Sixers have put up the last 2 games. Offensively, it's been partly cold shooting, part settling for 3's when we know we have cold shooting, not running any sets really and just "seeing what the defense gives us", and what I feel is most important... not going with any pace.
That last one is driving me crazy! There is zero reason why at the end of a 48 minutes game with our depth that Embiid (known for poor conditioning), Harden (known for poor conditioning before he was older even), and Tucker (older than Joe) should have more energy than our guys. It would be a good problem if our guys were tired because it meant they were running their asses off and hustling all game, because how bad would their guys be if ours were tired. We have the depth to sub for a breather then bring the guys back in (yeah yeah I know, Joe has to use the depth). Play with some pace! The defense will not be as set up, the ball will move better, and you will probably even see more shots go in as you're in rhythm instead of just standing around then suddenly having to hoist up a 3. We don't call timeouts at the end of the game so they can't setup their defense, but we ignore the majority of the game that still holds true. Rebound the ball, please limit the frustrating offensive rebounds because we didn't play hard enough (getting out hustled) or didn't play smart enough (poor positioning/guys rotating to the wrong player/etc.), and then GO!
Last night sucked hard, but we're not out quite yet. We literally came back down 2-3 just last year. I know last year is over, but it's pretty much the same core + Brogdon. JUST DO IT! I don't want to hear excuses in the post-game and tweets, just get it done.
