Maybe as a backup to Nurse if he decides to go Phoenix/Philly…. Possibility Boston if Nurse puts it all on hold to wait and see if we call him too…

I hope NN go to Phoenix , we don’t want to face his team 4 x lol

I bet JVG considers himself halfway retired at this point. We've never even seen him seriously consider a coaching gig in quite some time. He's got a decent, low stress job that he seems to enjoy.

He looks better now than he did 25 years ago.

Really can’t say the same for the other guy in that pic, been a hard 25 years lol.

Sorry I get confused, I've seen more 1990s games in the last 12 months than I've seen of today's games! My partner has a big collection of basketball dvds :D

Wasn't JVG a finalist for the Rockets job when they got Silas? Or am I confusing things?

I know people are negative on Nash as a coach but I would not mind seeing him get a chance to coach a normal team. It was an absolute circus in Brooklyn and I haven't heard a good argument for why he was bad. Brooklyn took eventual champion Milwaukee to the brink without Kyrie and with Harden playing on one leg (and probably hurting the team by being out there).

Toronto has middling expectations after a disappointing season. I was against their Nurse firing and I wouldn't see Nash as an upgrade, but I wouldn't hate this move.

To be clear, I'm not saying I believe Nash is a great coach. I'm just against judging him based on weird times in Brooklyn. I'm biased though since I was a big fan of Nash the player.

noone knows what kind of coach Nash is.

unfortunately, a lot experts on timeout calling, making rotation adjustments, and other nonsensical fan narratives about coaches, *think they know.

It's not just about Xs and Os, it's about getting the players to buy into whatever plan vision you have. It's about having the backing of the front office etc. it's not NBA2K where you bench a player and the next game he is ok. You bench a player and he might tune out for the rest of the series etc, im not getting my shots, why should I focus on def etc. Phil was great at reaching his players as a coach. Xs and Os issues can be addressed with proper assistant head coaches.

Tex Winter made that triangle offense work for him. That’s 11 titles. There must be something to it.

Any news on the Pistons?

A month ago it was said that they had three finalists (Charles Lee, Kevin Ollie, Jarron Collins): https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2023/04/charles-lee-kevin-ollie-jarron-collins-to-get-second-interviews-with-pistons.html

I really think Vogel should go to Phoenix and fix their defense. Give him a gritty PG like Schroder and a switchy wing and this team will get much better.
Nurse to the Bucks.
Monty to the Sixers or a young team like Orlando or Detroit.
Bud comes back to assist Pops in San Antonio.
Rivers retires or get an executive or consultant job somewhere.

Surprised Ollie's name doesn't get tossed around more. There was a time when he was by far the hottest coaching prospect around. Won a championship at UConn and won his court case over UConn.

Nurse will probably have his pick of the open positions, but I bet he waits to see if the Boston job opens up. That’s easily the most attractive vacancy IMO.

Yeah, unfortunately then he started losing with UConn. He won with a team that Calhoun had built. Windows obviously come/go quickly in NCAA ball and he wasn't able to recruit/build again like Calhoun did.

In hindsight, he should've struck while the iron was hot. He was a hot commodity because he won a title and had connections with NBA players (even superstars).
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Then again, Jacque Vaughn was an assistant coach, and he's the worst head coach in the NBA now....

Vaughn isn't worst coach in the league

Correct. That "honor" belongs to Chauncey Billups. His team blew 17 double digit leads before they started to tank with Damian Lillard having the best season of his career. Those 17 blown leads were a big reason they decided to throw in the towel and tank after the trade deadline.

He had the talent to consistently be up double digits, the other team would make an adjustment and it was all over. Chauncey didn't have a clue how to respond. This was a team that was out scored by 30+ points in the 2nd half on a fairly regular basis. Up 25 on the Lakers at halftime, only to get outscored by 33 in the second half, up 17 on GSW at the half, only to get outscored by 35 in the second half. They would also often go scoreless over the last 3 - 4 minutes of a game (again, when they were trying to win - before the tank).

Whether they trade the 3rd pick and keep Dame in a last ditch effort for a deep playoff run, or they trade Dame and go all in on the rebuild, the very first thing they need to do is fire Chauncey Billups and hire a real head coach. They need to do it NOW when so many good coaches are currently available.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see bud go back to the spurs for a few years as an assistant with the promise that he can have pops job in a few years and coach wemby
