There are plenty of coaches who coached superstars who didn't become made men.

Unless you remember Bill Fitch or Don Chaney for example.

They both coached Hakeem before Tomjanovic.

I'm sure RS will jump in, but I think he means former player superstars who go into coaching do not have success.

Correct. But I did smile when I saw Chaney's name.

I totally filled in the wrong word with the censor. Ha.

Would love to know who each team and coach are prioritising for themselves since they are all chasing eachother together.

Superstars who relied on physical talents make poor coaches because they gained their esteemed reputation through a means that isn't transferable. For example, Nash was an elite ball handler, shooter, and passer. These are skills he couldn't pass onto his players. Kidd was long, strong, an elite passer, rebounder, and pesky defender. Neither were smart players who understood the game better than everybody else.

On the other hand, Larry Bird was a great coach. As a player, he was usually the smartest player on the floor. In the same vein, I think Chris Paul could be a good coach if he wanted to be. Maybe others like Draymond, Rondo, Horford. I'd be looking at players like that before I considered somebody like Giannis or Curry or even LeBron. LeBron is a high IQ player, but he sees the game through the lens of being more physically gifted than everybody else.

Nash and Kidd were plenty smart as players. Coaching is just a totally different job. A lot more to it than just *knowing*.

Anyway bring back Dudley.

Leadership vibes from Griffin. Think I’d be OK with it, still ultimately hoping for Nurse though

I read on twitter about Giannis wanting us to hire Griffin. Forgot the source. Something like Gumbo or something. I tried to look now to get the link. Not sure I'd trust him as a source though. Rather read it from SHAMS or Woj.

Griffin has great energy and knowledge.. That Sixers interview was really interesting. I can see why he reached the final interview round.

From his Instagram Giannis has been vacationing for the past couple weeks. I can't imagine he is the decision maker here without having the front office at least request him be around to meet with them and/or other candidates.

It would be tremendously dumb if a front office allowed a player to call the shots, but I wouldn't be surprised if they at least asked for some quick thoughts.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the ownership group wants nurse, Horst wants Atkinson, and Giannis wants griffin.

Of course Giannis will be involved. As he was with Bud (Giannis and Khris had dinner with Bud before the hire was announced). That doesn't mean Giannis is "calling the shots". It means you keep your franchise player in the loop with this critical coaching hire.

Informal communication chains can easily change 'Giannis seemed excited about Griffin' to 'Giannis prefers Griffin'.

I refuse to believe he's the best candidate, even if you wanted a young up and coming assistant you could pick one without the DV baggage Griffin has.

That’s really ugly Bucks better do their investigative work if they go that route. Giannis must not know about this? I can’t see Giannis supporting this guy with these types of allegations. Bucks need to be 100% certain he is falsely accused/innocent if they pull the trigger. Just hire Nurse and keep it simple.

Clearly the loss of Ham was impactful on this team…how much does a potential HC’s ability to assemble a staff impact their ability to get hired?
