No, he's not a good keep at his cap hit, he's just playable.
It's basically Robinson > (Strus (on a medium contract) + asset(s) needed to move Robinson contract).
Between Robinson and Strus, Strus is the better player but his agent saw what Miami gave Robinson and watched Strus get minutes over him for the last 2 playoffs, Strus has been starting while Robinson got DNPs.
This next contract is quite possibly Strus's only chance to make decent (for NBA players) money in the NBA, he has to take the biggest contract he can get. The same thing goes for Vincent, but I think Miami has been grooming him to be their starting PG for a couple years now, Lowry was supposed to be a stop gap at PG until they felt Vincent was ready (which is why they wanted him for a 2-year contract).
I’m worried about the Raptors offering Vincent a decent contract with the impending loss of Van Vleet.
I hope they offer Struss and Vincent stupid money to go elsewhere, that way we can move on from undrafted guys who are capped at their peak and will not get us over the hump that we keep investing time into. Caleb has been the only good signing so far based on production vs cost. Once we get rid of Duncan and Lowry we can finally get back to fielding a balanced team when we get some of their cap % invested back that is very little on the productive side.
I am soooooooo tired of the undrafted player talk. These players are good enough to play in the NBA so why does it matter how they got to NBA? It takes more than talent to make the NBA although talent will give you more opportunities if you fail early on. Vincent is a role-player, he's supposed to shoot 3s and play aggressive defense, I'm sure there's a lot of players out there that could do that if they accept that as their role. Get a 6-6'4 combo guard, tell him he has a green light as long as he defends.
Strus is interesting, he plays from the 2 to the 4 and has a nice outside shot when it works, I wouldn't pay him much since he's not reliable with that shot nor a good defender, he's just the best option Miami currently has with 3pt shooting and defense.
Like you mention, let other teams overpay those players and let Miami "develop" new role-players. Miami let Nunn walk after he started the finals, and they were better in the long run that season, not so much in the playoffs but Butler was horrific that series.
