SMART wont be the alpha now, he wont be dominating the ball. He wont be taking bad shots. Tatum and Brown deferred to him SO much, now that wont happen. Bostons starting 5's length is ridiculous.

It’s not so much that they defer to Smart, it’s mostly teams double the Jays and leave smart wide open, and the Jays have no choice but to pass it right back. Problem is, smart is cocky enough to take the shot all the time. At least draymond green would look for other options than take the shot himself.

I think both sides are guilty of putting smart higher or lower than where he deserves to be. I remember arguing with someone about smart being a role player or not years ago. Like him being anything other than that was even worth a discussion.

Smart is a glorified role player. He is a great role player. He was too important to how we do things tho, IMO. We weren't good enough, and he was a big reason why. *I still think brown is the biggest reason*

Stevens earned so much of my respect breaking up the core. I would have preferred to trade brown and keep smart if I had to choose between the two but at the very least 1 of the 2 had to go IMO. Unless you are just fine of more of the same for another year. I'm glad stevens wasn't.

So many people talk about smart being the heart of the team..... And they say that like it's a good thing. Need I remind you that this team had consistency issues all the time. They failed when it mattered most, all the time. So how is that a good look on the supposed "Heart of the team.". They look soft as baby s*** often. Miss me with that nonsense. They literally gave up in game 3 of the ECF.

Smart being the heart of the team got us 0 titles. The end.

I totally agree!
I don’t think Smart is a starter for team with a championship ceiling. Smart’s passing is just average, but his bbiq is just not there. I mean, i have seen smart tried to throw lob passes to White lol. He doesn’t know when to abort a pass. The guy is a 6th man, and i would have want his vocal leadership on the bench, but we all know that wouldn’t happen if he’s playing and healthy. There were games that both white and brogdon were playing great, and you have to bench one in the 4th in favor of smart. It’s more of Joe’s not having the balls to do the right thing actually. Now, by moving Smart, we won’t have that problem. I actually want both smart and brown moved. Brown and Tatum doesn’t really fit well. Heart and soul is the most used line this past 2 datys on every form of platform lol. Where was the heart and soul when we went down 0-3, and guys like Gabe Vincent were having a career series smh.

A+

Porzingis diversifies the O, is efficient, and provides another intimidator on D. Others have gone to greater detail so I'll leave it at that. He'll be our 2nd option on offense and can facilitate a lot of actions that weren't available before in all areas of the court. Less one on one and more simple passes handoffs and quick actions.

Underated aspect of trade is more Derrick White. Should always be finishing games. Advances the ball quickly, it doesn't stick in his hands. Another shot blocker and charge taker. Selfless, can penetrate and a deep threat. Understands the importance of pace.

Smart... I loved him and I hated him lol. Great effort, hustle, willingness to put his body on the line. Quarterback on D and capable of miraculous pays on D. But not a great decision maker, bit of a hot dog going for degree of difficulty passes when simple ones in order. Tended to dominate the ball at times and his shooting was a liability, particularly late in tight games when other teams would let him be the open man.

For all the talk of toughness and ❤️ and soul for his effort he was also very inconsistent and tended to slow the pace of the game whenever we were up, which played into the team's inconsistency during games. Also had trouble initiating the O under pressure and never appeared able to consistently play the role of a calming influence during pressure situations.

Yes he could come up with brilliant individual plays but was not good at guiding/directing the team with pace or when the pressure was high. I will not miss him slowly 'walking the dog' while opposition catches their breath and sets the D in a close game.

Who’s going to be the vocal leader in the group now? Who’s going to right the ship when the sh#t hits the fan?

Younger fans are used to grade inflation: nothing less than a straight B allowed.

But yeah, it's been rightfully well accepted all around.

Remember when we pondered over whether Trading Smart for Porzingis was worth it?
Now, it's the week before the Finals; and we're in it.

Looks like I gave it a B+. Would change to a solid A in hindsight. I love Smart but don’t miss him a bit.

I got some negative responses, back in 2022, when I said the Cs will never win a chip with Marcus Smart.

That became true when Smart got traded.

My original vote was A+ and it would have been A+++ if that option were available. Even if we lose the finals, which seems possible but not very probable, I'd stick with my vote.

1. Celtics haven’t won anything

2. You have know idea if the Celtics would’ve been in exactly the same place with Marcus Smart

Celtics made the NBA Finals with Smart

Yeah, made the finals with Smart, but came up short.

Not saying it was Smart's fault, but coaches intentionally leave Smart open.

It"s like playing 4 vs. 5.

Can't do that with Jrue Holiday.
