Both. ESPN is bleeding money right now, has been for a while now, so they’re cutting the deadweight while also make “cap space” for Sharpe and McAfee, who will both command big money. A true turning of the page for a new era at ESPN.

I believe you are just speculating. Disney did not report ESPN separately so there is no way to know that they are bleeding money. I think the consensus is that they are actually very profitable, but we will see in the next earnings report when they change the way they report

Of all people to lay off, it's JVG? ESPN just continues to spiral further down the toilet. I'm not even a big JVG fan but he was one of the few redeemable things left at ESPN.

I remember a time when Rose was one of the rising stars at ESPN (which I never understood, he's bland as hell). So much for that.

Perk makes horrendous takes (and not in an entertaining way like SAS/Skip) while breathing heavily into the mic when others are talking. It’s the opposite of good content, but I guess financially he wasn’t making the big bucks yet.

This. I like Skip, but it's obvious he's playing a character. Perk having asthma attacks on air and sounding like a total buffoon isn't a gimmick, nor is it entertaining.

Disney is in a free fall right now. Disney+ is a disaster and is experiencing no growth. The only good source of growth they have is parks.

Look at their stock...it keeps getting downgraded.

Hate that anyone's getting fired but Kellerman was reportedly making $5 million a year, which is pretty crazy. Some of these salaries are outrageous, I'm not really sure who decided Greenberg was going to be one of the faces of the network, but here we are. You can take the $7 million he makes per year and probably hire 10 people and still have money left over.

It's a combination of cord cutting, bloated salaries, and ESPN just putting in a bid and buying all the sports.

I think ESPN is scared of firing Steele right now especially with the lawsuit going on. Plus it would only give her ammunition to go to certain media outlets and publicly blast them and everything they do and how they're bias for certain employees and views.

JVG was one of my favorites along with Hubie Brown. He will be missed. I like how he always advocated for the coach!!!
I've come to appreciate Reggie Miller. Even when Reggie exaggerates something he always has an interesting idea behind what he says.

So they're going to go younger, cheaper it looks like, keeping the less expensive commentators.

Marcellus Wiley talked about cuts on one of his recent youtube videos.

Basically, Stephen A and Greenburg make a lot more money than everyone else there, but they aren't going to get fired since they're the stars of the network.

And it isn't effective to cut a bunch of cheaper people. ESPN can't function if they cut their producers, camera people etc.

So the mid-level people are going to get cleaned out. On-air talents are replaceable if they aren't the ones driving ratings.
