Suns will be around 3-5th offensively but defensively around 12-14th which is middle of the pack unless they get another stud to focus on defense & can hit a few shots here and there.
I do find it very curious that we brought in a defense-oriented coach and loaded the roster with offensive talent. Are we gonna see more of that ugly iso ball we saw once Chris went down against the Nuggets? Will our defense be worse because no one can defend the point? Or will Kevin Young be able to get us moving on offense without a PG, while Vogel pushes our defense to a new level?
One thing is for sure. Our coaching staff do not have easy jobs!
That's one thing...is it more important to have Okogie start to guard PGs? Or does that make it too hard for us to guard 3s. I think KD has the length to guard any 4s. With Book's improved D, is he more equipped to guard PG or SF?
I think it may come down to matchups. Maybe KBD starts when the opposing star is a SF/PF like with the Clips, Lakers, Celtics, etc. But if it's a 1 or 2, maybe Okogie starts.
I can't think of many good teams who changed their SL nightly, depending on the matchups. Typically they'll say if there's a mismatch, they have to guard us, too. But you're right that defense could matter more, given our firepower. OTOH, I'm worried about running an offense without a real PG.
Starting Okogie might be our best bet, because he can both guard PGs and rebound. But you also don't want opponents structuring their whole defense around leaving the one non-shooter open. Maybe if we start Okogie the whole year, he'll get enough reps that his shooting won't be that big of a concern by the time the playoffs roll around.
I worry about KD getting beat up at the 3. But then, maybe making him chase guys on the perimeter is the more salient concern, given how most of his injuries have occurred historically.
You'd think KBD might make the most sense as a 6th man, given that he can create his own offense. But then, we promised him a chance to compete for the starting gig. If that's true, we've gotta be thinking that Beal will guard PG.
No matter what we do, we'll be vulnerable to big 4s and quick 1s. The question in my mind is whether we can get enough ball movement in our offense to offset that, because I can't see us being so good defensively that a mediocre offense will cut it.
