Don’t be a hater. You would have said something similar about Booker in the summer of 2015 when he was picked 13.

Meh. I like them both. I’m a big fan of what Suggs brings to the table. If the dude shoots 36-38% from deep this year, you’ll be changing your tune. Patience man.

YOU MUST CHOOSE!
haha, Suggs won't do that, but it would be damn nice if he did.

You do realize Suggs shot 33% from deep last year right? A 3% improvement for a 22 year old isn’t improbable. Cole Anthony made a pretty huge jump in his 3rd year. It does happen.

His splits are interesting.
.390 at home and .265 on the road. Nearly identical attempts.
.370 in 1st quarter, .340 in 2nd, .341 in 3rd, and most informative, .259 in the 4th.
He had a terrible November (.271) and December (.235), but finished strong with an April of .462
Suggs fundamental problem is that his eFG% is still not acceptable. Not only is his 3-pt. percentage not high enough, his FT rate is appallingly bad at 2.2 FTA per game.
For Suggs to be the future of the Magic at starting off-guard, he needs to fix a lot more of his offensive game than just distance shooting.
As this is the Howard thread: it is interesting that in time, as this team is constructed, either Suggs or Howard will be the starting SG in the 2024/25 season. Those two will be in direct competition for playing time next season.
This season, Howard should spend ALL HIS TIME learning defense from Suggs in the practice gym. There is no better use of Howard's time in the 2023/24 season. Suggs will be an educator in how-to watch game film, and all the intellectual stuff that comes from defense.

Jett Howard's combination of size, shooting, and versatility is translatable. He has a strong frame, a solid motor on the defensive end,

Outside of his shot, Howard is most known for defensive upside. He's great at the point of attack and is also good at navigating the pick-and-roll.

The starting position is for Suggs to lose. I like what he beings to the table, but if he doesn’t develop into a solid shooter this year, the starting spot will be over for him.
Jett actually did pretty well defensively last year for Michigan,
?s=46&t=iLAy6FEi9caa6E4C9teZYQ
Jett was a good defender on almost all categories:
Spotup
Handoff
Offscreen
Iso
The only average he was below average is in pick and rolls.
He was also regarded as a solid defender coming out of high school.https://247sports.com/player/jett-howard-46077028/

Getting less featured on offense, might allow him to exert more effort on defense. I don’t think he’ll be a lockdown defender like Suggs, but I think he can be solid.

Really good post to see! I remember looking at the summer league games and wondering... "His defense isn't as bad as people made it seem"
and i loved that he affected the game in many other ways... passing included. There is definitely more than meets the eye with him. And remember.... he was dealing with injuries during the season. Yeah... i really found it interesting that he was being touted for his defense when coming out of college... and in college matured his offensive game that much more. If he balances it all out... yup... I love the pick even that much more!

He has more of a complete game than Hawkins and Grady.
I think the surprise/shock came from because he wasnt projected to be in the range. But if talent alone, I think he is worth picking in the lottery

Franz was never exploited on defense in ways Jett was at college. And nobody in right mind will come to conlcusion Franz is "elite" defender, he is average one.
And it's not like anybody questions his desire to defend, it's simply him being below average athlete that was on display even at college. Now NBA players are x50 times faster , more atlhetic and there is more space to guard.
Okeke was "great" defender with limited athletics at college, than he went to NBA and he looks like poop because his latheral quickness simply doesn't allow him to stick against people who make adventage over him in matter of 2 steps.
Being SF in nba means that on "easy" night you have some Kyle Kuzma who averages 20 ppg to cover. It's easly the most stacked position in basketball , talent vise.
And i don't know what's there to evalauate in SL, we brought most pathetic team of SL out there, we were getting blown up, it was pathetic open practice that i'm trying to forget happend.

In terms of what? All 3 are different players lol

These numbers look even more impressive then…

Because I remember a lot of the same conversations and we now see how Franz is turning out. So give it a break and let’s just wait and see what the management saw. They did ok with Franz, didn’t they? And a lot of you thought he wasn’t going to be that good either. I think Jett is going to be good for the team.
