Don't think anyone is questioning that there was an offer or two at the deadline, it was well reported. But isn't the timing of the trade irrelevant if they ended up with the better prospect, regardless?

1. They didnt end up with a better player. Thybulle is better than Precious
2. Timing does matter as we coudlve gotten an expiring contract at the deadline instead of dead weight Dragic who we had to pay to get off of.

1. How so? Thybulle is solid defensively, but has zero offensive game, maybe the worst in the league. Precious can defend and has much higher offensive upside.
2. Dragic was on an expiring who they dealt with 2 months left on his contract. They traded him because a) he was disgruntled and b) they felt Thad would be an upgrade over him for the playoff run.

It kinda seems like the main failure was trading Dragic to get out of the tax. They should have eaten it. Just go into the tax every other year if necessary.

Thybulle wouldn't have even been allowed to play in Canada at the time cause he didn't get COVID shot.

1. He's a rotation level player. Precious is just not good and its very difficult to argue against that. He's been living on the same potential for 3 years now, and, besides the 2 month stretch whee he inexpliciably shot 40% from 3, he's done nothing to show he actually deserves minutes on any decent team. Thybulle at least has a useable skill in this league that teams can benefit from
2. They traded Dragic and paid moving back in the draft for financial reasons. Financial reasons that would not have existed if we made a trade at the deadline instead of the offseason.

We've re-hashed this too many times. It was a bad decision and there's no defending it. It's not a fireable offense, obv, but all these mishaps begin to add up.

Your basically rehashing a story where you are making assumptions like a thybelle deal being on the table as fact. You also exhibit the sake trait all masai hayers have..you overrate players not in a raptors uniform. You description of precious can easily be applied to thybelle. You can argue they are pretty much a wash in terms of who they are. Precious the one thing he has is incredible athletic ability that we can still possibly parlay into something very good.

But lets distill all this riff raff to the original point. We got fair return for lowry.

Some fans here are constantly reaching for things to whine about.

Now posters are crying about not having Thybulle instead of Precious? These two players are just about as equivalent asset wise as players can be.

Yup. Just letting the contract expire would have been better than trading out of the first round of the draft.

its not just that you pay the tax, you also lose out on the tax money teams get for being under the tax.

lets say you go 2 mil into the tax, and pay the fee on top of that, $2 + $3(tax) mil = 5 mil.

but you also lose out on the $14.5 mil teams got this year. its a decision with a delta of about $20mil to even marginally go into the tax.

If Terance Mann is really the holdup on that Clippers deal, that is hilarious.

Cant believe a guy who just put up 21/10/7 on 61% TS can't find takers.

The nba is broken and a lot of management teams are just outright stupid lol.

Didn't Harden only opt in with the intention of being traded? If so, this is pretty shady by Morey.

I thought he opted in because he wasn’t going to get the extension he wanted and no one else who had cap space was going to sign him.

He was bitter he sacrificed last season so Philly could improve (PJ Tucker) and then they wouldn’t give him the contract he wanted (a 4 year max).

That is my understanding at least

Seems like last season with Gobert/Mitchell the market was super high and not management teams have gotten scared after seeing those teams win a combined 2 playoff games

I still think a trade can be had between the 76ers and the Raptors with Pascal going to the 76ers, Harden to the Clippers, and Powell and Mann coming back to Toronto.
