He walked out of what, his last 2 or 3 teams?

Even if he turns it around, he isn't knocking out anyone of the current team barring injury.

Proctor (and hopefully Rocco if he impresses as much as his first preseason game) will be ready in a few years but not likely to be in Paris.

Australia have a big weakness in Kay that needs replacing. Cooks too to a lesser degree.

Simmons could honestly play the 4 or 5 and do a better job than both those guys.

The results of the first round are carried to the second round. So, since both teams are already qualified for the second round, whoever wins today will have a starting result of 1-0 and the other one 0-1. That means that whoever loses today will have to win out against Spain and Brazil to have a chance to get to quarter finals.

I like this Latvian team because it's a good representation what you can achieve by working on the things that are workable, like chemistry and team coherence, even if you have less talent than the opponent.

But seriously, yes the classification (17-32) round will be super interesting— despite most out of the World Cup tourney, it’s a tournament within the tournament for those Olympic spots.

A few minor corrections but you get the gist of it and a lot will be decided after today.

The whole qualification process is so crazy. On one hand you have teams qualifying for the olympics with likely 1 or 2 wins in the whole tournament and on the other hand a european team likely needs to go to the semifinals and finish 4th or even with the bronze medal to qualify...

That's just how world tournaments are. Every continent has to be represented or else it's just not a world tournament.

Yeah I don’t think Bolden is very well regarded, was the suggestion I got a few years ago from someone who is, let’s just say connected… to elite Australian basketball.

As for Kay, Australia just seems to have a love for big unathletic tweener big men who just scrap. Reminds me of Wagstaff in Perth.

No one in basketball comes close to NBA contracts hense several exceptions at the most. Also do not forget he plays for Jordan, he looks great, but any el guard would be superstar on that team, just like Mitroglunis their superstar center.

NBA vet minumim for 6 years in the NBA, like he has is $2,528,233. That's gross, so federal taxes, state taxes, local taxes, agent fees, union fees, retirement fees, all come out of that.

Usually the sports agencies consider it 60% for NBA teams that play in states without a state income tax and 63% for the teams that play in states with the state income tax. So we are talking about something like $900,000 US dollars net. Just about any decent rotation player in EuroLeague is making that much or more.

NBA players are not paying 63% of their take home on taxes and agent fees. It’s less than 50.

And are you saying that European players don’t have taxes or fees? Isn’t the highest paid Euroleague player making like 4m a year before taxes?

For all of the deductions, all the taxes, all the player deduction fees, and the agent fees. It's around 60% for players on teams in states with no state income tax, and about 63% for players on teams that have state income taxes.

The contracts in EuroLeague are listed by the net amount, the amount the player gets after all of that.

In EuroLeague, if a player is like somewhere between like the 5th to 10th player on a team, they usually make somewhere around 900K to 1.2 million net a year. The 1-4 best players on teams usually make a lot more than that, in the $2.5 million to $5-6 million in net income range.

This isn't true for all of the teams, on a few of the clubs with smaller budgets, the highest paid players are usually more in the $1.2 million to $1.5 million net range. But keep in mind these are the net income salaries.

So if he was just an average rotation player in EuroLeague, he could make around the NBA minimum, or even more than that.

So classification round (17-32) will be the battle for the lone Asian and lone African Olympic slots looks like;

Group A + B
Angola
Philippines
China*
South Sudan*/Puerto Rico

Group C + D
New Zealand
Jordan
Egypt
Mexico

Group E + F
Japan
Finland
Cape Verde*
Venezuela

Group G + H
Brazil/Ivory Coast
Iran
France
Lebanon

For Africa, South Sudan, Cape Verde and Ivory Coast technically still have a shot but will need point differential (or Ws) in tomorrow’s games.

For Asia, China needs to win by a mile to be the lone team in the 2nd round.

Sorry for featuring the Loser’s Bracket, we losers need to find a way to still watch this tournament, and those Olympic spots are the only reason why. LOL

For anyone in the know, for the 17-32 classification, the losers will only have 2 games, so usual tiebreakers apply since we’ll have similar records?

UcanUwill wrote:I am starting to like our chances vs Greece, their bench sucks, where we have like ten guys who can equally change one another,

Greece's team took some big hits just from the prep games, because two of the rotation big men left the team since the prep games. Dimitris Agravanis was kicked off the team by the coach, due to some kind of dispute, and then Dino Mitoglou got hurt in practice so he's also off the team.

Agravanis would have been the team's main power forward, and Mitoglou would have split the minutes at center with Papagiannis. Because they both are out of the team since the prep games, now Greece has Mano Chatzidaks and Thanasis playing major minutes at the 4 and 5 positions. And that's quite a huge drop-off in quality of players, as compared to Agravanis and Mitoglou.

Shai playing like Kawhi. Using his handle to get into the mid range then using his body to create space to hit the jumper.

Did you see the guys he was playing against? Those scrubs wouldn't get minutes on a college basketball team.

Are you really claiming that EuroLeague players, guys that play in the actual EuroLeague, could not make the rotation of an NCAA college basketball team?
