Bethesda hasn't published a great game since Fallout New Vegas...And even that one wasn't Bethesda but Obsidian i believe.
It looks like fallout 4 but in space.
Well, Bethesda the publisher, publishes good games, but Bethesda the game studios, is different thing. AS you said, New Vegas wasnt theirs, and their gave Obsidian 18 months to make, can you imagine the nonsense. I believe that game reused Fall out 3 assets sure, but to write and make a game, especially so non linear with so many branching stories, it is ridiculous it was made in 18 months.
SKYRIM and Starfield took Bethesda like 6 years, at least?
I always had love and hate relationship with Bethesda games. Like SKYRIM. I can see why most people love it and say it is one of the goats. I love open world and how dynamic it is, NPCs just doing their thing, very little scripted bullcrap, leveling system is amazing. I love all the mechanics like alchemy, enchanting etc. I love that you see a guy, you can loot everything he has till the trousers, not some random drop chances he drops some item.
But... other things, are so inept sometimes. Constant loading screens, graphics of their game is always outdated, ANd what kills me is their NPCs. THey built lore for sure, but NPCs that boss you around are so shallow imo. SKYRIM is podcast game, because I dont care what any of these people saying, they might as well just be cardboard cutouts, and their character and quest design is so inept at hiding the fact that you basically just going back and forth from place A to Place B like a moron. Like, yes, every game is like that, but they hide that fact. Like compare SKyrim to Witcher 3. Yes, Witcher 3 will make go from place A to place B, slay something, then comeback. But it is written and presented so much better, you really believe you doing something important. In SKYRIM, I just play, it can be addiicting, but at the end, I realize I dont give a F about anything, I just following that marker of theirs.
I found it funny that I complained about it for years, and fanboys alwways called me stupid. But then Bethesda came and made Fallout 76, which is to me, a blatant addmition, that they never themselves thought NPCs are important, its a sandbox game with just lore, all of their games was nothing more but that IMO.
That said, I will stay try Starfield, it does look a bit interesting, I dont care about AI generated garbage empty space, but I will give them a chance, because I like Bethesda RPG mechanics still. But I still have Baldurs Gate 3 to boot up.
