Blake - unlikely to resign here
Biyombo - not a bad option but between defensive switchability, shooting and playmaking, the C's seem to like bigs who check at least 1 or 2 of those boxes and Biyombo doesn't really check any. Then again, a guy like Clint Capela doesn't check any either and I'm sure we'd take Capela in a heartbeat (if it was realistic, of course). If Biyombo can be a cheaper Capela, why not? We could certainly do worse for a 4th or 5th big
JaMychal Green - veteran ring chaser. A little bit undersized at the 5 but so is Garuba, so is Griffin and so is Gabriel. He can shoot it pretty good. Not sure how much gas he has left in the tank, though. Didn't get a lot of mins last season for the warriors, and his mins went down as the season went on. And at times he looked a little out of shape, or maybe just getting old and running out of gas
Garuba - I think we've talked about him to death at this point, so not adding anything else for now haha
Wenyen Gabriel - we've talked about him quite a bit as well. I really like his motor and energy. Him and Garuba both have young legs, fresh legs. They both play really hard and with good energy. Both a little bit undersized at the 5 but decent size for a small ball 5. The main differences between them is Garuba I think is a little more impactful in terms of defense, rebounding and rim protection. Garuba is also like 5 yrs younger so has a higher ceiling/upside. Gabriel though is 5 yrs older and more polished as a player, obviously more NBA experience so with Gabriel you know what you're gonna get from him with greater certainty. Gabriel got a little bit more playing time last season (on the Lakers, who made WCF) than Garuba got for the worst team in the league. Garuba since he is so young and inexperienced makes mistakes that you see from a young kid who is still raw and still developing. You get less of those mistakes with Gabriel.
It seems like the celtics strategy with these last few roster spots is getting guys on non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed contracts so they have the flexibility to get rid of the guy if it's not working out or if they want to go in a different direction with that roster spot. So it might come down to which of these guys is ok with taking that type of contract.
Perhaps we just end up signing a couple of exhibit 10 guys to fight for the spot in camp, though.
Biyombo would be serviceable. Yeah, he doesn't check off the boxes, but the team added 3pt shooting, offense and passing in Porzingis. Biyombo just needs to come in, hit the boards, be a live body, and make sure Al and Rob don't get worn out during the regular season.
I'd prefer to see what Garuba could bring, but Biyombo is a 12 year vet, and has averaged 67 games per season. He should have something left in the tank and provide a good journeyman presence off the bench.
