The concern I have comes from something Bobby at CLNS said, basically wondering out loud that if Brogdon needs surgery on the elbow and didn't get it right after the finals, then maybe he really feels unappreciated and will get the surgery at the start of the season, keeping his summer open, and doing his rehab from October - December on the company's dime.

It's a red flag if true, but can't say I really would blame him. The team basically indicated that he is expendable, so why go the extra mile?

Edit: And if Brogdon is out for the first two months, it wouldn't be the worst thing. In fact, may it is a good chance to see what Pritchard can bring in a regular role, and give Banton (and JD/Scrubb as 2-Way) some minutes as well to see what they can bring. Then the decision can be made at the deadline.

Yea, I don't think it would surprise anyone if Malcolm were out to start the year. No word yet but we'll see.

I imagine the unspoken conversation from Brad:

"Malcolm, you know we love you, but we love the 7'3" Unicorn more ...and more than Heart and Soul Marcus too. And we love Derrick White more than you too, btw. And your name isn't Jaylen or Jayson, so... ipso facto and all that.

But, we do still love you, so why don't you take a couple months off and get your body right, and we'll cover for you (because we still love you, did I mention that?)

There really is a super good chance that you'll be out there on the court late in games when we need you most.

Love you! :kiss "

KP, Rob, Al.

Kornet as the 4th big and Queta as the 5th big.

I think that's fine. I mean, if we grab another big like Griffin, Biyombo or Gabriel for that last spot, I won't lose any sleep. But I think those 5 guys is enough at center.

Queta was a guy who had recently been waived and then we scooped him up. Perhaps that is what Brad will do for the 15th roster spot too. Perhaps he will wait and see who gets waived between now and camp (or during camp) and then sign 1 of those guys.

I've never understood why this board likes Kornet so much. I think they would be better off replacing him. Then again I guess if the last guy in the rotation is the biggest issue on the team its probably a good thing.

I'm your huckleberry. Let's look at some of Luke's stats last season, and how they ranked on the team:

games played: 69 (5th) nice
minutes/game: 11.7 (13th)
PER: 16.7 (5th)
TS%: 0.70 (2nd)
Off rebound %: 11.9 (3rd -- after Rob and Mfiondu!)
Total rebound %: 13.4 (5th, but not very good, this is the area of his game I'd want him to improve most)
Assist %: 9.1 (12th)
TO %: 11.8 (11th)
Block %: 4.9 (2nd, 0.1% behind Rob)
Usage%: 11.5 (16th)
Offensive Win Shares: 2.1 (6th, ahead of Grant, Sam, Jaylen and Marcus)
Defensive Win Shares: 1.2 (10th -- last among rotation players)
Win Shares: 3.3 (10th -- same story, though ahead of Blake and Pritchard)
Win Shares per 48: 0.198 (2nd, behind Rob -- Tatum, Brogdon, Al, and Derrick were next)
Offensive Box Plus/Minus: -0.4 (8th)
Defensive Box Plus/Minus: 1.3 (tied with Derrick for 5th, ahead of Smart, Tatum, Grant, and Malcolm)
Box Plus/Minus: 1.0 (7th, Marcus was 10th and Grant 11th)
VORP: 0.6 (8th, ahead of Marcus and Grant)
Source for all of this: https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2023.html

My analysis: looks like a really effective role player. Low usage, pretty high impact, and the addition of Porzingis probably means he loses some minutes this season, but lord knows he's unlikely to be anything but a great teammate about it.

BUT he is goofy looking in the classic big-white-stiff way, and also a goofy personality, so I understand why, for some people, a closer look at his impact is more time than they want to spend thinking about him. Pretty sure Brad and Co are on board with what he does for a non-guaranteed vet min contract though.

Could someone do his role better? Probably. Are the Celtics realistically going to find such a player for a non-guaranteed vet min deal in September? Very doubtful.

Spears said the Celtics and Blazers have talked, as well. Blazers should take Brogdon/Rob and all the picks, out of spite.

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I say Bring Him to Camp. Give him the usual Partially Guaranteed, and go from there.
We have a few spots left, to reach our 21-Man Offseason Limit.

A pretty good pick up for Philly,
glad he didn't end up with the Heat,
as he would have hurt the Celtics in one or two Playoff games.
Nice to see Miami losing out on several decent Free Agents.

He settled for the Philadelphia Malcontents. Must be fun being in that locker room.

They have a bunch of talent, but it's a weird fit. Maybe Dame is destined for 76ers and they are trying to cobble together some extra talent for when the team is dismantled.

Group A: Smart, Griffin, Gallo, Muscala, Grant, Jackson, Champagnie
Group B: Porzingis, Svi, Queta, Banton, Brissett, Walsh, Stevens?

On paper, Brad is steadily improving the roster. I'll take group B easily.
Would have been nice to see Gallo suit up for the C's though.

If they can't convince Harden to come back, their roster looks like this:
Guards: Maxey, Melton, Beverley
Wings: Harris, Tucker, Oubre
Bigs; Embiid, Reed

I'm not sure they have even one guy in the lot that is an average passer for his position. Nurse history of running his starters into the ground is going to pair really well with Embiid's fragile health too. They better hope that Tucker and Beverley have something left in the tank, otherwise they are going to be really thin. Honestly it feels like a group that has run its course and that is going to get blown up next summer.

We don't have the salary to turn Brogdon into Harden do we and I'm the only one who wants to do that aren't I.

Hornets playing third team for Herro in a Lillard trade prob means Hayward getting cut.

Celtics don’t need Harden dribbling for 21 seconds and blowing off Tatum, Brown and Porzingis. That is just one of about a hundred reasons why the Celtics should stay away from Harden

I think he'd buy in for a season given our current roster. He'd be here to run point first n foremost. I think he'd be fine deferring to JT. Thrilled, even. And he can't get into that much trouble in Boston (could go too hard into the restaurant scene I suppose).

James
Jaylen
Jayson

Robert

That's a ring waiting to happen.
