He is a negative player. In his career, he's never had a positive RPM for any season. That's insane! Simply not having him on the team means more points and wins. We need to rid ourselves of players like that.

He would have been signed by now as a long, big, lengthy wing who can shoot the 3 if he was anything above zero, but he isn't

Kelly has played on some BAD teams throughout his career, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that. But I do agree, probably best to move on given we need to improve our team basketball IQ and Kelly lowers it especially since the role he expects to play in is greater than what he's capable of.

Oubre posting a positive RPM last year, ranking 101 out of 525 players.

Also, 150/525 players were positive RPM. Not sure even having a negative RPM is some rare occurence as you are trying to make it.

Add the Heat to list of teams wanting to sign Oubre.
Cavs, Memphis, Miami, Boston, Dallas.

Problem is they all really only have the min to offer other than Memphis.
but yeah 5 playoff teams interested in him, but we would rather sit on 20 million in cap space and have Tre Scott get our 15th roster spot.... but don't worry our organization is all about the playoffs this season lol.

I don't have any interest in signing Oubre, but you're spot on right here. If this team was serious about competing they would have been a lot more active this off-season.

Guess the market for Kelly's services wasn't so, uh, robust after all.

There were like 4 teams who could offer him over the min at this point and that includes the Hornets. Him signing with a contender who needs depth on a 1 year min isn't a surprise. He is very obviously worth more, but the way FA works these days these deals are bound to happen.

The Pacers have 7 million in cap space and that is the most in the league.
A few teams could have offered him an MLE deal.

We are probably going to regret not bringing him back especially if we ship out Rozier or Hayward in a Herro deal.

I highly doubt it's ever happened in the history of the league, barring injury or someone who did something horrible and flat out ended his career.

Terrible combo of cap space drying up at record speed, teams being uber-conscious of efficiency, and the Hornets being an absolute dumpster fire.

Also I truly believe the Hornets have been viewed as completely toxic around the league for multiple seasons, and teams want nothing to do with our cast-offs.

I would have thought that Malik Monk and Caleb Martin would have put that to bed.

Monk, despite a pretty solid last season here, only got a vet minimum with the lakers... that's kind of proving my point

we won't regret not bringing him back. we aren't a serious playoff team (even if we were, Kelly won't help on any consistent basis). any minutes that could have gone to kelly in the absence of terry/hayward are better spent going to miller, nick jr., bailey, thor to give them.

We know Oubre is all empty stats, teams around the league obviously recognize that as well.

The thing about bringing him back is that it would worsen the log jam of minutes at SF/PF. I'd much rather give Miller that extra burn.

Right but Monk proved to be worth it, which was my point. I figured after Monk and Martin that no one would think former Hornets can't contribute.
