I am not a big fan of undersized players, never have been excluding someone who is ELITE at something

however, trading Pritchard would leave essentially nothing for backup guards (outside Brogdon)

White/Brogdon/???
Brown/?????/Svi
Tatum/Walsh/Hauser
Porzingas/Stevens/Brissett
Timelord/Horford/Kornet

If we brought back a backup SG in the trade for Pritchard then maybe it makes sense? I think Stevens and Brissett will combine to make a reasonable backup PF and Walsh and Hauser will combine to make a reasonable backup SF.

But backup SG is weeeeeaaaaakkkkk

You don't really need a backup at every position. We're not going to go 10 deep anyways. And even if we did, we likely wouldn't play a lineup of 5 bench guys in the game at the same time - unless it was garbage time. We'd likely keep either Tatum or Brown in the game with the bench unit, in which case they could be 1 of the wings - with someone like Hauser on the other wing.

Regular rotation will be 8 or 9 guys. You got your 5 starters, then the first 2 off the bench will obviously be Brogdon and whichever big (rob or Al) doesn't start. After that, Hauser is the 8th man and if we need to go to a 9th guy, you could have Walsh, Brissett, Stevens and Svi battle for those mins. Maybe Kornet gets some mins if we're down 1 or 2 of our bigs that game.

Also, you're forgetting about Banton. He would slide in to that 3rd string PG spot..

With that being said, we're trying to win a title here. I doubt we would just dump Pritchard (a decent player who can shoot, play scrappy defense and was our 8th man when we went to NBA finals) for 1 or 2 2nd round picks.

My point is entirely that Pritchard is very likely going to cost too much going forward. Or -- if he's not worth more than the vet min -- that any # of guys could take his place, and Brad Stevens might as well consider getting a minor asset for him if you can.

There will be a reckoning in terms of guard minutes if/when the Celtics move on from Brogdon prior to next July 1, but I'd be surprised if Pritchard at $5M+ was part of that picture.

You may be right that next summer is the time to worry about that, rather than rock any boat with this 'all-in-right-now' season.

FWIW I like Banton's potential, and I think Walsh looks like a SG until he (if he) bulks up, and I like JD, Yam, and even Juhann as guard prospects who could come over and do a lot of what Pritchard does -- ie, mostly sit.

My thought is that PP, unlike Grant Williams, won't really have the luxury of a betting on a good deal in FA. So they give him some modest offer with the last year being a team option, he takes it.

They can then use his salary in a trade or as a small asset, and not lose their last first round draft selection for zip.

Wouldn't Grady Dick + OG + filler and 3 1sts beat anything Miami has to offer? I would also think Portland would love to send Dame to anyone but Miami to save "face" if an offer is anywhere as good.

I really think it's Toronto who holds the cards. It's just a matter if they will pull the trigger or not.

WOW!!

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38505763/sources-blazers-trading-damian-lillard-bucks-3-team-deal

The Portland Trail Blazers are trading guard Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a 3-team deal that also includes the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Portland will receive Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, Milwaukee's 2029 unprotected 1st-round draft pick, and unprotected Milwaukee swap rights in 2028 and 2030, sources tell Wojnarowski.

The Suns will receive Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little and Keon Johnson, according to Wojnarowski.

Celtics?

Brogdon, Pritchard, Kornet and multiple picks.

White can return to bench, and team has death lineup of Jrue, White, JB, JT, Porzingis.

Well, I'll say this. The Bucks GM is aggressive. He's not afraid to make moves. And he's had them in contention for like 7 yrs in a row now, has won a title. And make a hell of a draft pick and good scouting with Giannis (assuming the GM there now is the same guy who drafted him..)

The Jrue trade that brought him there put them over the top for their last title. And now trading him away might get them their next title.

Clearly one of the better GM's in the league. Solid moves to bring in Lopez, Connaughton and Portis, too..plus the move to bring in Tucker after Divencenzo went down..
