He's only 21. The real eyebrow raiser is SGA.

however, trading Pritchard would leave essentially nothing for backup guards (outside Brogdon)
White/Brogdon/???
Brown/?????/Svi
Tatum/Walsh/Hauser
Porzingas/Stevens/Brissett
Timelord/Horford/Kornet
If we brought back a backup SG in the trade for Pritchard then maybe it makes sense? I think Stevens and Brissett will combine to make a reasonable backup PF and Walsh and Hauser will combine to make a reasonable backup SF.
But backup SG is weeeeeaaaaakkkkk
You don't really need a backup at every position. We're not going to go 10 deep anyways. And even if we did, we likely wouldn't play a lineup of 5 bench guys in the game at the same time - unless it was garbage time. We'd likely keep either Tatum or Brown in the game with the bench unit, in which case they could be 1 of the wings - with someone like Hauser on the other wing.
Regular rotation will be 8 or 9 guys. You got your 5 starters, then the first 2 off the bench will obviously be Brogdon and whichever big (rob or Al) doesn't start. After that, Hauser is the 8th man and if we need to go to a 9th guy, you could have Walsh, Brissett, Stevens and Svi battle for those mins. Maybe Kornet gets some mins if we're down 1 or 2 of our bigs that game.
Also, you're forgetting about Banton. He would slide in to that 3rd string PG spot..
With that being said, we're trying to win a title here. I doubt we would just dump Pritchard (a decent player who can shoot, play scrappy defense and was our 8th man when we went to NBA finals) for 1 or 2 2nd round picks.
My point is entirely that Pritchard is very likely going to cost too much going forward. Or -- if he's not worth more than the vet min -- that any # of guys could take his place, and Brad Stevens might as well consider getting a minor asset for him if you can.
There will be a reckoning in terms of guard minutes if/when the Celtics move on from Brogdon prior to next July 1, but I'd be surprised if Pritchard at $5M+ was part of that picture.
You may be right that next summer is the time to worry about that, rather than rock any boat with this 'all-in-right-now' season.
FWIW I like Banton's potential, and I think Walsh looks like a SG until he (if he) bulks up, and I like JD, Yam, and even Juhann as guard prospects who could come over and do a lot of what Pritchard does -- ie, mostly sit.
