It's a tricky situation with Jrue.
He has a PO next year for around $40 million.
He had said previously that he was going to retire after his current contract but then told a Milwaukee reporter recently that he's looking for an extension.
So Portland has to move him as an expiring asset.
But the acquiring team may be only getting a rental, so they'd be reluctant to pay too high a price.
I'd love for the Warriors to acquire him but they have 2 trade-able FRPs for the rest of the decade so it would be a high price to give up FRPs for a rental.
And they can't extend him for anywhere close to his current salary, because they already got a sky-high payroll and they also have Klay as an expiring contract too.
Any team acquiring him has to determine if they're going for a rental or plan to keep Jrue beyond this season. That will determine how much they're willing to pay for him.
Sure any playoffs contenders should want him.
Last season though, he had one of his best offensive seasons, 48/38.4/86. But in the 5 games vs. Miami, he shot 40/28/69.
That is one big reason why Milwaukee traded for Dame. Bucks were the #1 seed, 58 or 59 wins last season and then they collapsed in the playoffs.
Jrue's market value will depend a lot on what kind of season he has at age 33, including the playoffs. That will determine if he signs a multi-year extension next year at over $35 million a year or he exercises that PO and see if he can raise his market value.
He might still command over $30 million a year regardless of how he plays though.
So it'll be interesting to see his trade market.
I don't know how the rules work though, if a team can trade for him before the season and then trade him again by the February Trade Deadline if as an expiring asset, his team decides they can't use him the rest of the season -- like a contending team has other key injuries and isn't going to be a factor in the playoffs.
If Jrue can be traded twice this season, then there will be greater demand for him.
