I'm not trying to derail anything. I'm happy you guys got the deal done and Dame got to a reasonble destination. It's the first thing that I said.
Now the Heat had Herro, Jovic, JJJ + 3 FRPs, Caleb as assets that are close to a FRP and they really wanted Dame.
It is very difficult for me to imagine that the Portland FO went to them and said, hey here is the deal we have from Milwaukee if you don't beat it we take it.
They absolutely could have beaten that deal.
The way it went down from reports is that they just never went back to the Heat and were happy to take the Milwaukee offer.
It's fine with me, it is what it is and down the road offering everything the Heat have would have hurt them.
The Heat are fine, they have promising young guys and are banking on Herro making another leap.
The only one who really suffers here is Jimmy and that is the only part I am upset about, he played his heart out for the organization and they could not put another star next to him. Maybe they get smth. done, but the clock is ticking for him.
They had 3 FRPs? I thought they only had 2?
I'd say OKC would have swapped the protected pick vs an unprotected pick a year later, don't see a reason why they wouldn't. It's clearly better for them to do it.
Because Miami's record gets better with Dame on the team. So that hurts the pick OKC gets. OKC has no incentive to make that deal. That's why it never happened. OKC would have wanted something in exchange for removing the protections and accepting a worse pick.
