Doesn't currently concern the Heat but *maybe* Riley and Andy can take advantage of their situation between now and the deadline.
Allegedly there is a potential mess brewing in Utah between the FO (Ainge) and their coaching staff. Ainge has been grating on everybody/sticking his nose everywhere including in the coaching decisions which is a reason Fizdale went running out of Utah after one season. Ainge has even been dictating minutes for players. He didn't listen to his HC who did NOT want John Collins but Ainge can't help himself when it comes to hoarding assets. Their HC also pleaded for a pure/vet PG to replace Conley but Ainge has the roster littered with something like 5 combo scoring guards who all expect minutes. They have a new younger owner who has also been sticking his nose into things which is why they resigned his buddy Clarkson to a big upfront contract but they now want him to take a backseat to some of the kids on the roster. Nobody is happy and I'm assuming they are going to make several deals just to get out of some of those contracts namely John Collins who does not fit at all next to their young center Walker Kessler. Kessler might have to go back to the bench just to accommodate Collins. They like all their draft picks but don't have minutes for them including the PF they just picked at #9. They likely end up dealing a big chunk of their roster by the deadline like they did last season and the players already know it. Last season Lakers made it to the WC Finals after getting some players in a trade at the deadline.
Point being there are some potentially good rotation pieces including Sexton, Clarkson, Olynyk and Collins that could be had by the deadline. Alot of it might depend on whether the Heat organization is willing to swap out a huge expiring contract for longer deals. Riley would obviously need to hold his nose to deal with Ainge and a few of those players are repped by Klutch.
Hearing this kind of stuff really makes it so much easier to appreciate the job Riley has done in Miami. Pat runs a really tight ship so the info that comes out typically comes from other teams.
I can buy this.
And Sexton is the only name mentioned that would interest me, he might be underrated and we have a big hole at PG
I'd also take Olynyk back any day.
