McCarthy has the processing questions.

If you’re moving on from Fields, you might want a more clean prospect than he was. Especially if trading down into one

If you could only draft one of Maye or MHJ, what route are you taking?

Assuming you're on the Maye bandwagon of course and out on Caleb.

I'd take Harrison. Maye, like any young QB, is not a sure thing. Harrison is. He's a top 10 receiver in the league, or better, by the end of his First season. Best player in the Draft. And with Moore and Mooney teams won't be able to double team him all the time. Two elite weapons in Harrison and Moore. And a better than average slot WR in Mooney. A nightmare for Defensive Coordinators.

This was the first game in a while that I was rooting for a W.

Game was no sort of measuring stick (unless its to see who is the worst team). Bagent looked his most comfortable. His long throws aren't his strength, but not turn-overs or sacks. OL looked not horrible, but again, no real test there. Defense looked better. Sweat makes a difference in terms of turning our zero pressure squad into something mediocre looking, but we still need another guy to have a real pass rush.

Huge fan of the prime viewing experience, wider view so you can see the field and the route trails on receivers are awesome. Would pay good money to get every game like this.

How do you get the wider viewing experience?

When you watch the game on Prime its one of the options - the one with "Next Gen Stats" has the farther zoomed out camera than regular broadcast. Frankly I could live without the NGS guy that chirps in from time to time but between the zoomed out camera and the colored contrails on WR routes ... Yes please amazon take my money I want 17 games a year like that.

In that order.

Unless you are trading Cole for a pick (which is not a bad idea btw), drafting Bowers with as many holes as this team doesn't make sense. You could argue MHJ because Mooney is a FA who's often injured, and MHJ is best player in the draft at the 2nd highest valued position.

Bears should go Maye MHJ IMO. Bagent plays closer to Maye in playing style if he needs to step in.

Bowers is like Kelce. He plays a different TE position than Kmet. He would be like a RB in the slot on steroids or a slot WR with crazy size. His offensive gravity would open up so much. I think he will have a bigger impact than MHJ year one. He is the like a young QB’s best friend. Moves the chains and makes everything easier.

I’m out on Maye. Nothing special there. I like McCarthy’s upside more.

Just as a general rule I would not draft a short QB. Young is only 5' 10". There have not been many success stories for QBs shorter than 6 foot in the modern NFL. There just haven't. Maybe he breaks the mold once Carolina can get him sufficient weapons. But that could take years. Stroud is 6' 3". I would have drafted him instead of Young based on height alone. I think Carolina is going to regret the Young pick every bit as much as Bears fans regret the incredibly stupid decision to trade assets to move up and grab Trubisky.

In today's NFL with the quarterback being the most protected player on the field, Young's size is much less an issue.

You are right it could take years for the Panthers to get weapons but people shouldn't look down on Young because he's not doing more with a subpar line and weapons. Stroud has played great while he doesn't have great weapons that line featuring Tunsil is way better than the Panthers.
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

If the picks fall out of range for the top QBs then you trade up. Use some of that capital. Nothing is more important than getting the quarterback position right.

It could be our receivers just are not getting open, but I think it's more likely a combination of not wanting to throw a pick, and not seeing the field real well.

Especially on some of the designed rollouts, which I thought were creatively called, he had all day to throw, and still wound up running the ball, or throwing to a check down, instead of throwing it down the field. I don't think he completed one ball more than 15 yards past the line.

He almost made some poor decisions, threw into coverage, made some really poor throws, and in general just did not inspire much confidence.

The few times he threw deep, his receivers were not even slightly open. Which I blame on the receivers.

So, I'm back to looking forward to seeing Justin at QB again, because Bagent showed none of the magic he displayed in prior games. And this was against the worst defense in the league.

I do think the O line needs help too, which is stating the obvious. We couldn't run much last night, and all too often Bagent was hurried or hit as he threw it.

Bagent has not regress it's who he is the DC's now have tapes on him his arm strength and accuracy have always been an issue with him. The kid is a good backup QB some folks were ready to put him the hall after the game against the Raiders the kid is a feel good story I actually think Tyson can have a long career and make millions being a good backup but he is not a QB1.

unless whoever has the top 2 picks don't have reliable QBs either. even if one or both shop their pick, you've got every team w/o a reliable QB in the entire league competing with you. all have enough assets to get it done and there's such a thing as giving up too much

I don't watch enough CFB to have a strong opinion on the 2nd tier QBs in this draft, but many mocks show that McCarthy and Pennix might go around the teens to early 20's.

What's the better way to build a team? Reach for a 2nd tier QB or draft two top end talents at other positions of need? I'm not sure I want to constantly keep trading back either to accumulate more picks, when we also desperately need top end talent on this roster at multiple positions.

I feel like we are so desperate for an elite QB, that we'll sacrifice good in the pursuit of perfection, which is never guaranteed in the draft.

I can tell you Elite QB's are hard to find the Bears would be smart to stay the course bring in a good coaching staff and set the foundation that yes the Bears can develop a QB just look how some of our fan base act like a D2 undrafted QB can be the next Tom Brady.

Bagent has not regress it's who he is the DC's now have tapes on him his arm strength and accuracy have always been an issue with him.

again, arm strength has NOT "always been an issue." his velocity was clocked middle of the pack and the only factors in zipping a football are velocity out of the chute and tightness of spiral. it's not like he throws a wobbly ball. also, once again, arm strength has little correlation with nfl success these days

I still hope Fields shows us something for the rest of the season. But if not Maye certainly does have a cannon for an arm. Big velocity. Tight spirals. I'm looking forward to seeing him against Duke tomorrow, and then Clemson next week.

Bowers becomes your WR2 as a TE. You split him out. You use him out of the backfield.

Can you imagine him in the screen game?

The decision, even if it doesn't end up working out for them, is still nowhere near the head scratcher that was the Trubisky play. Young atleast has the body of work in college and was a top prospect QB in many peoples eyes.

Mitch on the other hand, had almost no body of work. Couldn't even beat out a non-NFL caliber QB for the starting job at North carolina. Plus the trade up, by absolutely everybody in the know, was completely unnecessary as nobody was taking Mitch #2. In a media world where everybody and their mother gets their opinions aired, be it on TV or online, even places like here, it was almost universally agreed that the Mitch trade up/pick was awful. Very few liked it in real time without hindsight. Much like the Doug Mcdermott trade up with the Bulls. With hindsight, obviously Mahomes was the correct call. But even without, Watson was a WAY better prospect than Mitch.

So to compare simply: Pace tricked himself into trading up (1 damn spot), AND picked a guy nobody else rated that high. While the Panthers were legit bidding against a handful of other teams, moved up 8 spots and took a guy that lots of people rated high.

The end result may end up the same, but theres still time for Bryce to get it turned around. Even if not, one move was bad in hindsight while another was awful in real time

I’m really hoping that Fields comes back and with the team so much healthier he hits some of the more reasonable expectations we had for him this year the rest of the way.

I hope so bc I really don’t want to draft a QB in the first next year. At first that’s because if we had first or second I would want to trade and get more draft capital for better players (line/defense).

Now, I want to keep Fields and if we get 1st I say don’t trade it! I’d 100% want to draft Marvin Harrison at 1. I’m risk adverse with a QB at 1. Young looks like a disappointment, Stroud looks like a stud. Wilson and Lawerance were both busts. We saw how bad Trubs was. Lots of risk with a QB that high. Lawerance even looked disappointing at first; and his subsequent rise is that even with “can’t miss” the difference is coaching and structure. Bears have not shown they can take a brand new QB with all the talent in the world and shape them quickly into a star. So even if we draft a star talent, I feel like best case scenario is a fair amount that will disappoint many of us and not end up timing up with the team we are building now (make no mistake, they have many prices in place with Moore/Davis/Wright .. Sweat/Edwards/Edmonds/CBs).

Meanwhile, Marvin Harrison is sure fire thing in my books. I’m pretty sure unless Williams/Maye are Marino/Elway level or above, Harrison will be considered the #1 on all redrafts. And what a perfect offensive weapon it would be to pull a whole lot of the Bears team together.

All of this is of course banking that Fields looks like a big step is at least taken with his return to a healthy squad … and obviously banking on this whole coaching staff be fired

Again if you lack arm strength and accuracy as a QB your are not going to last as a QB1 in the NFL

accuracy is his issue. mainly throwing behind receivers from what we've seen so far. perhaps adjusting to nfl game speed

The fact that each game Tyson is regressing tells me that the tape is out on him his accuracy sucks. I agree he gets the ball out fast but if your accuracy sucks he will throw a lot of interceptions teams are just going to sit on his short passes and dare Begent to beat them downfield.
