A pick at the top of the 2nd round to the second place team. A pick after the lottery to the first place team. Players on both teams get nice bonuses. Boom, now I'm invested.

Depends on the tourney. But having bragging rights to trophies is something fans jaw about all the time. Champions League (European wide club tourney), Europa, Conference League are all pretty big. But things like Carabao Cup (England only tourney) usually get B/C squads for the bigger clubs.
Have no idea what any of this is. Would I care more about the nba tourney if I knew what this stuff was? I did enjoy Ted Lasso, does that count?
The Champions League and the lower tiered cups over there are awesome because it’s across all the major countries leagues. It’d be like if we played the top teams from every pro league around the world. But US teams would always win. I too loved Ted Lasso.

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
IMHO the 14th pick is too valuable. Like you can't have Prime Warriors getting a free asset like that. A late first is good enough. Say 25th (Basically an extra playoff team pick). Or give some salary cap relief. That would satisfy owners, players would be satisfied with cash payouts, and fans would be satisfied with some really good regular season basketball.
Like I get why you guys would be invested to watch more because of a first/second round pick 8 months from now, but I don't think it moves the casuals.

The prize should be automatic playoff qualification.

also, I like love the idea of the winner getting a pick, but 15th is way too high
31 would be fine
hopefully this year's tournament is a big success (with the Bucks winning)
and next year it's $1M per player (500k to runner-up), a guaranteed play-in birth (winner only), and the 31st pick (32 to the runner up)

I’m positive you don’t watch a single soccer game and have the American egocentric view that it’s stupid, but the fa cup, Copa del Rey, and Copa italia are pretty big tournaments with the countries of England, Spain and Italy. As big as the league cup? No, but neither is this mid season tourney.
As far as your getting hurt comment? Every single one of these games except the final would have been played regardless so that makes no sense.

I don't think 2nd place needs anything. The prize money for the players and coaches plus adding in the 31st pick to the winning team works for me. But tbh as long as players and coaches are motivated and fans are watching more(which seems to be happening) then I don't think it's a big deal. Us as fans get to watch the best players compete at a high level, that should be awesome enough by itself
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Thanks. It took me 30 seconds of Googling to find out that there's an actual, tangible reason fans would want to see their teams win the FA Cup, Coppa Italia, and Copa del Rey. That reason doesn't exist with the in season tournament.

And it’s not to get a draft pick. I wish the nba would do a champions league tourney with Europe and the winner of this qualifies for that along with the nba semi finalists in the regular season. But since that won’t happen in my lifetime giving the winner of this homecourt in the first round would make this better. But as is it’s not horrible. The fa cup in 1890 or whenever it started was t what it is today. I’m guessing in 100 years this mid season tourney evolves into meaning more as well

And it’s not to get a draft pick.
But it is something. When the this this thing actually means something it'll be worth paying attention to. Until then you're just being pandered to with new basketball courts and a lot of people being paid to lie about how much they love it.

Give it time like those other competitions and there could be.

Well we’re going to get a home knockout round game next week. If its Tuesday, I may try to go and see how it goes.

Yeah, seems like it.

I've come around quite a bit. I've always hated the 6 month, 82 game slog. At least now there are some games early in the season where teams play hard and you know there will be no healthy scratches.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I like the draft pick to the winner idea. Add an extra pick to the end of the 1st round. Make it immediately tradable too, would be a good incentive for teams who've traded a bunch of future picks to grab an asset they can use at the deadline. (End of the lotto feels like too big of a prize)

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Me too. It has been kind of fun following the scenarios tonight, especially with point differential being a main tiebreaker. It seems like quite a few teams were engaged. Definitely added to what would’ve been a normal November slate. Looking forward to the knockout round too.

A shorter season would be ideal. Play a 72 game season where you play each wc team twice and you play each ec team 4 times with no b2b.MickeyDavis wrote:I've come around quite a bit. This is where I'm at. Anything that can make games during the regular season even slightly more important is favorable to me. I don't need my team to be rewarded with draft picks for winning. Watching players hold a trophy at the end of a hard-fought tournament is enjoyable as a fan.
The only thing I don't like about the tournament is that the championship game doesn't count for the season. I feel like they should count the stats and reward the winning team with a W but the losing team doesn't get a L.

This is cool in theory, but not convinced the players actually care. I'm not sure incentivizing the GM (and fans) is really the goal.
