Anyway, I won’t trigger another 10,000 paragraph rant on nature vs. nurture, but suffice it to say I personally think that RJ’s development has been forever stunted by playing alongside another ball-dominant lefty occupying identical airspace.
Rj's lack of development isn't Randle or Thibs fault. He has been given every opportunity to flourish here. He gets a ton of playing time and a lot of touches for the lack of production.
This is what is annoying as hell. It's always someone else's fault, the fans, some ailment, or the new one I heard after playing in SLC - the altitude.

Yeah yeah. Easiest thing in the world is to be an internet critic. Nobody's making a single excuse for RJ. What I'm actually saying is the same thing I've been saying since the July 1st acquisition of Julius Randle a month after RJ was drafted -- the Knicks wishy-washy can't-pick-a-direction bullsh*t is bad for RJ's development and has been from the jump. That's not an excuse for RJ, that's me being an internet critic of the Knick organization who chose (and continues to choose) centering their team around veteran acquisitions instead of top-end draft talent. The Knicks should have traded the #3 pick on draft day or the minute they knew they'd sign Randle. Instead you get this mishmash lineup and a talented kid brought up in dysfunction.
Am I saying he would have been an All Star in another system? No. I don't have a crystal ball. Maybe he would have been exactly the same player regardless of external circumstances. I find that unlikely, but who the hell knows. All I know for sure is that RJ and Julius fit together about as well as Carmelo and Amar'e.
If you're looking for an answer to the riddle of why RJ's production falls off, look no further than the stints when Randle transforms from Waandle to All-NBA Randle. Not-so-bold prediction: We will see a clip later this season of Randle sucking that just so happens to coincide with RJ looking like Star-J again.
