How do you know what the front office thinks?
The front office is dumb if they think RJ is just going to magically stop being bad though. There are no signs of him improving. Hes the same dude he was 4 years ago. Will go on a hot shooting streak or put some solid games together sometimes, but that shouldnt fool anyone anymore until he sustains it.
RJ is a bad to mediocre defender, passer, shooter, ball handler, rebounder, etc. He is also meh size/athleticism wise. There isnt anything he is good at and can hang his hat on besides shooting a lot and getting swatted at the rim constantly.
Julius drives me crazy still at times, but hes clearly leagues above RJ when focused. Id move on from both of them, but at least theres a chance Julius can be his All Star self in the playoffs. RJ had some solid playoff games, but he was overall still a negative in the playoffs which is sad because thats the best he can do.
In the end, Quickley >>> RJ so we better not let the wrong guy go. Quickley needs to show up in the playoffs too though for sure. RJ is a good lad, but just not talented enough.
How do I know what they're thinking? THEY said it ..This isn't rocket science.
“We are thrilled to announce a well-deserved extension for RJ Barrett, a core piece of our team’s foundation,” said Knicks president Leon Rose. “At only 22 years old, he has elevated his game each season, solidifying himself as a force on both ends of the court. We believe he will continue to improve because of his passion for the game and dedication to his craft. We want to continue to build our team and culture around players like RJ who possess these values and qualities.”
"His numbers are in the company of elite. His numbers are in the company of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Kevin Durant. They are the only other four players that by the age of 22 scored 3000 points, 1000 rebounds, and 300 three-point shots." - Leon Rose
They literally just gave RJ a contract extension and did it a year early because they believe in what he can become.
Now they're going to immediately dump him right after doing so because Realgm Knicks forum's opinion?

If that were the case they would have traded Julius Randle several times a long time ago .....but as you can see, when Leon believes in a player, he is patient and stands by his convictions.
Leon likes RJ and won't trade him unless it's for a clear upgrade, aka All-Star level talent or better.
Cmon now man. You’re posting MSG Propaganda/a PR puff piece. What else is the press release supposed to say when announcing the extension? None of us know what they’re really thinking.
That was 2 seasons ago also, when RJ still had some perceived upside. That ship has sailed. Hes the exact same player he was then. All his fans can do is point to counting stats and his age. Hes played a lot of minutes and taken a lot of shots, but his actual impact is mediocre at best.
We cant bench him now though because hed lose even more value. Just trade him already. Teams wont be fooled by another short hot streak. Also if Leon only wants to trade him for an All Star then he’s delusional as hell.
They extended him right before last season began... That season came and went and RJ was the only person besides Brunson to show up in the playoffs.
We're not even halfway through the next season and all of a sudden they completely reverse position and just trade him for nothing to appease the realGM Knicks forum posters?
Come on man.
In this matter, my opinion may not be the popular one but it's the correct one.
Let's make a sig bet that by the trade deadline RJ will be a Knick unless traded for an All-Star.
