Rudy Gay was a net negative most games, IMO. The turnaround reflected a lot of winnable games. The Raptors are about head out West on the Road Trip of Death. They could easily come back 10 games or more under .500. That said, there is no way Pascal is traded for crap just out of fear about how his contract might handcuff us IN TWO YEARS. If there is a reasonable return for him out there, fine, go for it now. Otherwise, accept the risk he might leave, because if there is one thing losing him for nothing would do, aside from making a lot of fans angry, is that the Raptors would have a lot of cap space to take on other teams' excess contracts with picks or prospects attached.
While I agree that they are really completely different situations, and I don't expect us to win anywhere close to 48, there is a chance that the team turns this around and Pascal is retained long-term as a result. I am skeptical that they will get a sufficient offer for PS to justify trading him. I'd WAY rather have him long-term than a lot of the garbage being floated.
The starting lineup still doesn't work because RJ/PS/Jak are below average shooters, but this doesn't have to change over night.
BUT if we have to replace pieces for diminished returns I'd rather it be the guys that are not all-nba. A line-up built around Scottie, PS and IQ can definitely work.
