This is actually quite simple. Siakam wants a max 5 year deal. He is turning 30 on April 2nd. Whatever team hold his bird rights can offer him that deal and retain him. Short of that deal, he'll just test FA and get the max 4 year deal a team like the Sixers could offer.
So if Sacramento is saying he wouldn't sign, it is probably because he refused to sign until the summer when he can be maxed, and they probably don't have an interest in maxing him out at 5 years, and were trying to get him to sign an extension, which after the trade he could only sign for 2 years.
The reason Fred left was Houston offered him the max (for 2 years, 3rd yr is a team option that won't be picked up). Toronto wasn't willing to max Fred (which was a smart move).
Pascal wanting to stay with the Raps for the rest of this season, gives him ultimate flexibility. If by chance he becomes eligible for the supermax (making All-NBA), he could try and force their hands to sign him to that (similar to Beal). But, even if he is not eligible for the supermax, he would still be eligible for the regular max (5 year deal) from the team holding his bird rights, and in the summer he could try and force the Raps into a S&T with the team willing to pay that, and the city he would want to play.
How much is the regular max? Numbers please.
5yrs 240 or 4yrs 202
Neither number will be that high, really the FA players for Pascal with playoff intentions are the raps and indy, and Indy can't get up to 40+ per yr
50mil AAV is nuts, I can't lie.
I LOVE Siakam but I can't stomach the thought of us maxing him out. I don't think Masai can either which is why he's trying his best to trade him.
