Damn. That's a loss. Hard to say, but I think Peters is the primary reason we've been so good in the later rounds. In terms of the draft, at least, I strongly prefer Peters to Shanahan and Lynch. It will be really interesting to see how this shakes out in the years ahead. Good chance he poaches some talent.
I think it's feasible we could keep him. For this upcoming year, his salary would probably be reduced if we signed him long term. Kittle is pretty cuttable after this season (almost $10 million in cap savings if we move on from him). That's hard to even think about, but those are some of the hard decisions we're facing once we have to pay Brock. Deebo also has an out after next season.
The Deebo-Aiyuk debate is a tough one. Deebo is so unique and important to what this team does. But he's had injury issues, he's had some weight and effort issues. He's not the blocker Aiyuk is (he can be, but he's not consistently), he dogs it on routes when the ball isn't going to him. But he and Trent are kind of the heart and soul of this offense, and losing them both would be a huge blow.
If they can't re-sign Aiyuk, they should probably be looking at his trade market this year. As good as he's been, WR is a position where you can find talent pretty consistently in the draft, and guys who can contribute early in their careers. If they can't keep him, they should strongly consider moving him for a first or more, and trying to replace him with a cheaper guy. Would hate to lose him and only get a late-third back.
