I wouldn't say that his upside is a role player just like Delon Wright has become one. Tony Allen was a role player too, but a hell of one, Boris Diaw too. We need those guys, we can't always look for someone who maybe can get some nba accolades in the future. Josh Green in a Danny Green role ? I'll take that, low usage, high efficiency = success. O-Max, Green and a FRP or two maybe ? Sign me up.
Dallas would have to attach a bunch of salary fodder to the deal that could negate a lot of the worth of the marginal assets you're getting back.
Also, every young roleplayer that can hit the 3 isnt going to turn into Danny Green who was basically an OG level 3&D guy. For every young player that turns into Danny Green, theres like 20 others that turn into Kelly Oubre or less.....dime a dozen types with no actual asset value.
If this the type of package out there for Siakam right now, I'd rather just give him the max. I think the Pacers are still the best potential trade partner out there because they can actually give you expiring contracts (which the Mavs dont have), young players with more upside and future 1sts.
this works in the trade checker
pascal (ufa)
otto (ufa)
for
thjr ($16.2)
grant ($13/$13.6/$14.2)
green ($12.6/$13.6/$14.6)
omax ($2.8/$3/$5.3 RFA/ $8.2 QO)
it can also be expanded to the following:
pascal (ufa)
otto (ufa)
boucher ($10.8)
for
thjr ($16.2)
grant ($13/$13.6/$14.2)
green ($12.6/$13.6/$14.6)
omax ($2.8/$3/$5.3 RFA/ $8.2 QO)
holmes ($12.9)

I think most people agree that the Pacers are the ideal trade partner but the question is the incentive for them to make the trade. They aren't contenders (yet) so they really only make this trade for Pascal's Bird rights.
The Mavs, on the other hand, have a lot of incentive to trade for Pascal. They are under-performing again and have basically zero avenues to adding significant and immediately impactful talent to their roster now or in the off-season. They have 2 more years with Luka and I can't imagine him staying if they don't improve ASAP, especially if someone as good as Pascal is available and regardless of his free agency status. Dallas has played this game before with trading for Kyrie so they have experience trading for a pending UFA and convincing them to re-sign.

It just doesn't make any sense. Is it personal between him and management? Why does he want to stay somewhere where he's not wanted?

claxton is ufa but he would use up most of the space plus we already have yak. no need to put down $40-50 mil at the center spot - especially since claxton isn't a shooter.
ArthurVandelay wrote:The only trade I see that makes any sense with Dallas (sense means combination of considerations in talent, salary rules, pick rules, both teams remain under tax) would be:
Dallas: Siakam
Raptors: Grant Williams, Holmes, Josh Green, Omax, raps 2025 2nd, 2026 1st
That is better than Sacramento
