Yak is a starting calibre C who is on a decent contract and he is only 28, he is definitely movable. Teams like Boston and OKC would want him.
Disagree 100%.
With the financial restrictions regarding the second apron, no competitive team is going to want to spend 20m on a center that can't shoot and who isn't elite. Honestly, I can't think of any team that would even want to trade for Yak.
- Chet is already playing C in OKC and they have a done of guys they need to pay soon
- Wemby is now playing C
etc.
Just because Chet/Wemby are playing C does not mean much. OKC and SAS literally don't have other options at the 5 right now, and for OKC specifically Poeltl would give them a really good other option who brings a bit more physicality on the boards.
Especially when they could trade Bertans (aka nothing) and then some picks (which they have a lot of) or other random bench prospects they have, they really could bring in a 24mpg center on a solid contract pretty much for nothing.
SGA
Williams
Dort
Chet
Poeltl
Is a better fitting lineup than that same lineup with Giddey in it. This move lets Giddey run the bench (where he can really thrive).
In the playoffs OKC is gonna have to play Jokic, Gobert/KAT, Sabonis, AD, etc. They need a guy like Jakob to give them a chance because 195lb Chet will get abused like Boucher does.
Edit: and even if Bertans is overpaid, it would be kind of nice to have a 6'10" guy who can fire away 3's like crazy as a stopgap. And no Poeltl = we lose a lot more without a true center and we might keep our pick.
