I honestly hope Daryl Morey doesnt think Dorian Finney Smith is a comparable player to OG because that would mean he is an imbecile. OG is a way better player. I wouldnt give up more then a heavily protected first for Finney Smith that would likely convert to 2 seconds. And Tyus Jones might be fairly comparable to Dejaunte Murray in overall impact although I personally think in a vacuum Murray is a better player but they are very different at how they get there. Murray is taller, longer, and more athletic. Jones is the better shooter 3pt shooter and floor general. Murray could guard Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, and for small stretches possibly Jason Tatum. With Tyus Jones you have a tiny back court with him and Maxey. Murray can also create his own offense much easier. For the Sixers at least I dont see the argument for Tyus Jones over Murray if the cost is relatively close given the Sixers needs and current roster. Yes lets add another tiny guard to go with Maxey, Melton, and Pat Bev!
Agreed hard to believe that's what he thinks. A lot more likely that he is waiting until to the deadline to not overpay (which literally is something he said recently) and/ or he doesn't want to blow assets/cap space on the wrong player.

I imagine that he didn't think Siakim, OG, or Scary Terry were worth paying for, but will make a play at whoever the best players left are (Murray?). Then try to improve again if a higher tier player comes on the market. Can trade Murray or whoever if needed then.

We have a history dealing with Charlotte. I don't think they're done making moves either. Nick Richards/Cody Martin would be just decent depth additions to this team. Neither are giving you world beater stats, but Richards is a nice backup center and Cody Martin is a very good defender at the wing position. I'm sure we can do better, but I'm just throwing those two out there. If we are dealing with Charlotte, I'd much rather see us get PJ Washington though.

I'd be interested in Malcolm Brogdon as a 6th man elevator. Can play the 1 or 2, good size at 6'4 230lbs. Elite shooter, good passer. That's 15 ppg off the bench that can play off of Embiid or take over in spurts with Embiid off the floor.

He's on two years though, and assuming we're hellbent on not sabotaging the 'cap space plan', I'd assume one of Tyus Jones or Monte Morris are in Philadelphia on deadline day for a package of 2nds and salary.

I'd pick Jones if that's the case. I like Tyus Jones, but he would appear to be a bad fit with Maxey. If that's the deadline deal then so be it. I'm like you, I'd rather have Brogdon because he's playable with Maxey or Melton or Bev for that matter. He's also having a nice season in Portland. He had the injury early on, but the irony is he's been the most durable guard on that Portland team this year. I don't know why they're holding on to him. They need to just move him and get back some assets. Obviously we'd need salaries to match up, but I'd part with Jaden Springer as a portion of the deal. Obviously some other things would need to be added. A draft pick, IDK. I'm not a fan of us giving up our 24 FRDP, but a future one would be fine. That's just me, I'm sure Portlands GM JRoy will get back to me as soon as I post this. His reply will undoubtedly be "Portland declines, Sixers need to add three FRDPs if they want Malcolm." Who knows though? Maybe Morey can talk him into it.

Given how long it felt like Tobias was in that slump... His numbers this year are actually pretty impressive as a guy that's a distant 3rd option offensively. 17.7 ppg on .606 TS currently. Still hate that he's not taking twice as many 3s as he is, but I don't think we're doing better than him this season as far as #3 options go

To Morey's credit, if the Hawks reports are true, it's at least a move worth waiting until the last minute for. That being 2 first rounders plus a young starter level player. So for Philly that's hopefully Springer or Reed (likely Melton is what they want) plus 2. That's a lot

I think springer would be attractive to them as a potential fit with Trae if given a chance

I don't think Springer is attractive to anyone. He's a fully depreciated asset at this point.

Hot take: There is no one on the market worth taking on long term salary to utilize the cap space at the deadline so my preference is to do literally nothing. I don't want to waste even a second round draft asset we could use in the offseason. We can probably get someone who can give us playoff minutes as a buyout because it seems most of the other contenders don't have access to it.

The problem is his “expiry date” for his peak performance coincides with Embiid.

I agree, three years into his development and he just does not look like an NBA player. He's got the athleticism all day, but not the skills. It's a shame we can't combine him and Terquavion as one player. We'd have a star in the making.

Yup, Springer has zero NBA level offensive skill. Don't think at this point there is any left to unlock. If Morey ever uses draft picks again during the Embiid era we should prioritize size, length and skill at wing/guard at the expense of athleticism, birth year, and traits. Those guys are closer to NBA role player minutes and we don't waste 3 years of development on a theoretical prospect like Springer.

In hindsight Springer was truly a waste of a pick given where we were in the Embiid era. What exactly were we hoping he'd become and what reason did we have to believe he'd become that player?

More Tobias propaganda:

I might be wrong on this, but I don't think there's a player averaging more PPG than him this year on a lower USG%

I’d…. take him. But not for a first. I’d trade Melton and maybe a second.

Totally agree with this and have felt this way for the last few years, thus my continued aggravation with the Bridges trade. This group has always needed depth, length, and shooting, all things you can get in the draft by not focusing primarily on potential and development. It's also why I'd like to occasionally use 2nd round picks instead of always throwing them away as add-ons.

Agree. Unless someone falls in our lap at this point I'd rather stand pat and see what develops in the buyout market. There's no one on the market right now worth giving up assets or cap space to bring in here.

Not sure who the target audience is for that propaganda, though.

We know better and other teams seem to just see the contract (even though it's now expiring).

Picks are tough to assess. Framework inspired by T&T board:

CHI out: LaVine, Caruso, Drummond
CHI in: Paul, Covington, Moody, Springer, two 1sts

GSW out: Paul, Wiggins, Moody, 1st
GSW in: LaVine, Morris

PHI out: Morris, Covington, Springer, 1st
PHI in: Wiggins, Caruso, Drummond

Maxey/Melton/Beverley
Caruso/Oubre/Korkmaz
Wiggins/Batum/House
Harris/Reed/Martin
Embiid/Drummond/Bamba
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

That is not entirely true.

POR wants a FRP for Brogdon. If we can’t get it I expect we will keep him and test the waters this summer.

Not interested in the Springers of the world.

Totally understandable if PHI wants to aim higher but MB is absolutely worth a LPFRP.
