Basically, his problem hasn't been staying healthy during the regular season when teams are coasting. It's been once the physicality of the playoffs start to ramp up, and guys are going to an extra gear so to speak when he gets hurt. The meniscus tear trying to embarrass Daniel Gafford a few years ago, the thumb against Toronto, and then the meaningless eye injury from Siakam. Then last year he was getting punked by Claxton and when he tried to retaliate he ended up hurt again. So yeah, he's getting hurt in the playoffs and it's always when he's doing stupid $hit that's completely unnecessary. He needs to play smarter and with a little more wisdom. Not every play in the postseason needs to be a statement one. He needs to CTFO. In every series he got hurt in, we either had total control of the series itself or the game itself was out of hand. The only one he did get hurt in that we lost was the Wizard game and we ended up beating them 4-2 that year. In the past we've had the depth/2nd star to overcome his injuries in the first round. Beyond that, not so much. If he gets hurt again in a first-round tilt with any of the ECF teams that we might be facing, we are going home on our own floor. I've said it time and time again. The first time we get a fully healthy, fully focused Embiid for the entirety of the playoffs will be the year we get to the Finals.
He had the meniscus tear, but he had a season ending meniscus tear that ended his first season.
He had a broken orbital… oh wait… he had one of those in the regular season too though.
And there was the thumb ligament tear… oh yeah, he tore a ring finger ligament in the regular season.
How about the year he had knee tendinitis? Oh yeah he gets that all the time.
Maybe the playoff knee sprain? He is missing games with that right now.
Did he break his navicular bone in the playoffs? No. That was pre draft and again while rehabbing.
Embiid has missed multiple games in the regular season for foot, ankle, calf, knee, back, hip, finger, elbow, and face injuries. And that’s just off the top of my head.
He is a 7’2 person with a reckless playing style, who missed the end of his college season and his first two NBA seasons with injuries. The narrative that he only gets hurt in tough playoff basketball isn’t supported by anything in his lengthy injury history. He has a chronic knee condition that swells up every year, and will continue to swell up. It is reportedly swollen as we speak.
He sits out just about every season for knee pain. It’s just magnified when your star player is missing important playoff games and your team is a disappointment year-after-year.
