Why? Utah might not make the play-in and could could decide to make a few moves that could help down the road. With Lauri, Collins and Kessler i bet Olynyk might be leaving in free agency, which goes for Dunn as well. They take a flyer on a recent first rounder in JHS, who was ranked high both on ESPN and the Ringer, as well as a solid combo guard in Gabe Vincent, who has been out with an injury for most of the season, after playing a major role in Miami's recent playoff-run.

Lakers get: Olynyk and DUnn
Lakers give: JHS and Gabe
Why? They double down on the current squad and make a move around the edges. Get a versatile big who can shoot which fits well both next to and behind AD. And they get an athletic hustle-guy that can play with both Reaves and D'Lo in the back-court.

Yeah, the original deal doesn’t really have any incentive for the Jazz, but the revised here might have legs. I don’t know if Ainge would want Vincent’s additional two years, but I didn’t love that contract when the Lakers offered it.

I don’t think the play-in will be a huge factor in Ainge’s decision making either way. I expect that the Jazz will look to re-sign Dunn. Olynyk could get moved, but your original offer would have a slim chance. Sorry.

I agree that removing the protections would be crazy for the Lakers in this scenario, but we’ve definitely seen crazy on this scale before; desperation feeds craziness. I wouldn’t do it as Lakers GM, as this move doesn’t ensure a playoff berth let alone championship viability, but the OP is a nonstarter as well.

I like JHS enough, but we have George and I don't think they'd be an ideal pairing. If we just want to take two shots on young guards and see who shakes out, I think the value is probably more than what we are owed, but I'd prefer different incentive (maybe moving protection to the pick to top 1 protected?).

I know that my opinion isn’t with the majority, but I’m yet to be convinced that it’s wrong. (Though I concede it could be eventually.)
