I felt like from that moment on the refs had absolutely no clue as to how they wanted to officiate the game. If you can’t see something so blatantly obvious near the painted area how can you even see what’s going on 30 feet away as Holiday throws up a one handed rocket launcher. We talk about players all the time in regards to choking and feeling the pressure. These refs looked so out of their element its uncomfortable to see.
From that angle it was the most egregious call. But an offensive player is also not allowed to literally grasp the defender's leg, and Senguin (how do you spell it) did just that.
The other thing that’s really interesting to me is that from the opening tip it seemingly didn’t matter that Brunson was getting bumped on every drive. Getting hip checked navigating around simple screens. Guys swiping at his arms and hands and even getting hit on some basic traps. Remember that Houston has committed the 3rd most fouls in the entire NBA this season. As far as basic nuances go - you’ll often see refs allow guys be a little more physical in the 4th where every possession feels its weight worth in gold. For whatever reason the crew tonight almost looked at HOU as some bizarro version of an early 90s rugged Knicks defense and that’s what’s even more perplexing.
