Maybe the new ownership and management will change that.
They're the Raptors before the Masai era.

Competent? Those are 3 of many many squandered draft picks.
First off...in 2018 they owned the pick that would become SGA. They traded with the Clippers and took Miles Bridges instead. Hindsight...probably shouldn't have made that trade.
2019...they took PJ Washington who is no longer with the team. He is better than the rest of the guys taken after him except for Tyler Herro. But once again...former 1st round pick no longer with team.
2021...they Boucknight and he's been a bust and released. Also traded a protected 2024 first round pick to get Kai Jones who got released for complaining about playing time. I don't blame Kai one bit. I'm not sure he's a good player at all but on a trash team like Charlotte to be stuck on a bench when they playing older vets...nah...I'd be pissed too.
2022...they traded picks Jalen Duren for Mark Williams. Both are solid centers but Duren has been more impactful mostly because Mark Williams has been injured a lot more.
They hit on Ball, Bridges and Miller but have pissed away a lot of draft capital to find only 3 good players.

He inherited a championship dynasty and drove it into the ground only saved by the fact Kobe was on the roster. I’m surprised he got the Charlotte job and I’m not surprised he’s been canned. Dude sucks as a GM. Nice guy though.
Didn't he pull off the Gasol heist? Would have been 3 more rings if not for Bynum's injury.

Riley is what's special about Miami though, if he's gone then I'm not sure who in that Heat org is supposed to woo Masai away.

You're never going to hit on every single pick, though. They also didn't lose PJ Washington for nothing. Their biggest problem is that their best player is always hurt and their 2nd best player hits women.

I'd imagine the weather, and the incredible free agent advantage that comes with it.

- He and his wife have a house in Miami.
- No state income tax (FO staff don't pay the "jock tax" so that 15M USD is definitely going to go a hell of a lot farther).
- One of the best coaches in the league is cemented in place.
- Singular owner who doesn't meddle.
- Will never deal with a player not wanting to be traded here.
It will be one of the most coveted positions once Riley calls it quits, and I daresay Masai will be near the top of the list.
