One thing also, people who don't watch Pelicans games(and there is also a lot of top media guys that don't), don't know that Trey is actually not that great of defender. Being tall, long and fast doesn't automaticlly make you a good defender, sadly(ask Brandon Ingram).

Let's say Hornets land in position to draft Topic. Would you trade 14 + Murphy III to move up for Topic?

I've always found Murphy III to play excellent defense against the Hornets. His TS% on his career is better than Ingram's and on par with Mikal Bridges'. Ingram is a bucket getter though. I'm not sure Pelicans can better absorb his loss vs. Trey Murphy III.

From the Hornets perspective, Miles is matching Ingram in efficiency and counting stats, so we need Ingram less. We will likely return Miles using similar money owed Ingram. So if we targeted Ingram we'd be cutting Miles for nothing instead of paying him.

That feels counterproductive.

I would maybe consider it. Topic is injured right now, have to see him play more meaningfull games for Red Star before i could make that decision. Problem is Pels should be going for win-now moves, but they can maybe use Topic for future moves. That one is though question and good proposal.

Topic is NBA-ready in my humble opinion. He manages the floor like a veteran, with poise and purpose. You can't speed up his pace. Micic is similar and I've seen teams double-team him despite his sometimes snail pace.

I would think having McCollum as a cushion running PG1 for the next couple years gives the Pelicans a smooth transition.

Jordan Hawkins can use more touches as well. So I think Hawk can replace some of the scoring void left in the wake of a Trey Murphy III trade.

I really like the synergies I'm seeing between our teams. I think we share common ground necessary to build a fair and balanced negotiation. We make good trade partners.

This trade makes me chuckle a little because I had to argue until I was blue in the face that Trey had more trade value than Pascal Siakam even though he isnt as good of a player and this thread more than proves that.

The value definitely there in the initial proposal. Id also do Trey for the pick straight up and would consider Trey plus our pick for the Hornets pick (I wouldn't trade the Lakers pick this year because it makes more sense to wait until next year for that pick in a better draft.

But there are two problems with the trade. One, Trey is both Zion AND Ingram insurance both in case of injury or Trade. He fits better next to either one of those players than fit together because hes more of a complimentary player. I don't think we trade him unless we make the conscious decision to run it back. The other problem is that its extremely unlikely that the Pels would make a trade for a draft pick with either Zion or Ingram still on the team. The timeline doesn't work and they would likely rebuild around 1 player before doing a complete rebuild.

I would try to route that trade package for Miles Turner or throw the whole package of picks at Memphis for JJJ

Completely rational.

I just watched PJ Washington yield a top-2 protected 1st. Trey Murphy III moves the needle more than does PJ.

Despite potential financial barriers, Pelicans front office has every right to demand a premium for Murphy III. His numbers comp well with Mikal Bridges'. Nets have postured like Mikal is some untouchable piece.

Murphy III holds less value but his efficiency comps with Mikal while counting stats track with Mikal's career when he was a third option in Phoenix as Murphy is whenever he shares the floor with Zion and Ingram.

Makes no sense for the Hornets to buy Mikal as a #1 option when we have LaMelo and Miller top 2, and probably Miles just as capable of putting up numbers as Mikal. That's before factoring in matching for Mikal vs. Murphy III where you can see it's as simple as Tre Mann who was selected with the very next pick in the 2021 draft.

Hornets only need Murphy III as option 4 in place of PJ Washington. He's a huge upgrade over PJ.
